Well heck I gotta chime in here now too. The guy who said the center of gravity issue on the Arctic Fox was full of crap. The 990 is 8" before the rear axel. Their floors do NOT fall through. They CAN be used off the truck...ggrrr.
Here's a news flash for you all. Arctic Fox and Eagle Cap are the same exact units EXCEPT one is aluminum and one is wood. Their floorplans and layout are identical. Their appliances are identical. Their slide mechanisms are identical. Their weights are almost the same too.
I don't know what kind of hooch that guy was smoking when he threw out that bull on Arctic Fox campers.......
The truth is I take my camper off road and on some pretty lousy roads too. I chose the wood frames because wood has some forgiveness. Aluminum does not. That's why you buy it. For its rigidness and strength. If your a concrete 4x4 driver, buy the Eagle Cap. If you off road, buy the Arctic Fox. I have used mine alot in almost two years. No leaks, no bottom falling out, on and off the truck...
Good luck in your decision.

Exactly-what 97 dually said...Arctic Fox has a superb reputation for quality and customer service. And I will not say that everything else is crap--taint so Mcgee. You listed some good brands, and there are others listed above. Personally, I do get a little nervous about untried technology, and worry about problems down the road. But that is also your choice. It would be awfully boring if we all drove the same truck carrying the same camper--there is one made for you, whatever the brand! Chuck

Quote: I have a 9.5 on order and with the options I orderd will weigh about 3100 lbs with the double slide. Ken I hope you have the best of luck with your new camper. I do think you are in for a BIG surprise when you weigh your rig though. 3100lbs is WAY to light for a double slide. Once you add water and gear, expect to weigh 4000-4500lbs.

Beach Bum,
The off the line weight, as weighed by the manufacturer and stamped on the ID plate is 3186 lbs. I agree when it is provisioned up it will go over 4000, that's why I ordered a Dually.
The anticipation is killing me.

I went to the RV show in Portland a couple of days ago. Looked over the Artic Fox, Northern Lite, Bigfoot, Fleetwood, Adventurer, Snowriver and Lance, including the new Lance Max( the all new,no wood aluminum/foam cored/plastic roofed/basement model).
As you well see from my profile, I'm a Lance owner. That's owner, not fanatic! As I've mentioned before, there were many factors that entered into my Lance purchase, not the least of which was my wife and daughter's call saying that they had "found the perfect camper".
Yeah, it had everything I wanted and more(weight). In addition to the size and dry bath, storage, slide and "look" that I/we wanted it also fit a criteria that is unique to me...height. You see, the doorway height of my storage area is fixed and unalterable. The 1071, with a/c and storage pod just squeaks thru....voila...perfect in every way!
Friends of ours have the Artic Fox-11 foot slide. I like the feel inside, very roomy, but it just won't fit my storage area as easily as "Bucky", our 1071, does.
Another pal is going to the RV show today, with the intention of ordering a new rig. He is very interested in the new "Max" from Lance.
My thoughts on the Max....feels as roomy as the Artic Fox and other basement models. Step up to the bed and ceiling height above the bed is usually an advantage in basement models that I looked at.
Slide includes the frig, contributing to the sense of open space over my 1071. Bath is wet and forward, door is hinged in the middle...I didn't like the door. Cool overhead large escape hatch with light, sliding bug screen and "black out screen" built in. The flat-screen tv is way cool. Dual battery carrier, nice consolidation of outdoor shower, plumbing controls, step up is such that you don't need the scissor ladders common to the basement "breed".What's not to like?
For me, height. 9 inches taller than my 1071. Also, the basement models lose the storage areas inside the wheel wells. We don't fulltime and aren't usually away from water supplies long enough to miss the capacity differences fresh to grey to black. But what am I thinking, I've got a height problem!
These ramblings may not help, I hope that your choice suits you as well as ours has suited us. Good luck, we'll see you out there,
