We have a loaner 5th wheel with A&E awning. To open do you have to reach the trigger way up on the top right corner by using the skinny metal long hook? What do we short people do? Is this the only way to do it?

My awning hook can be used by my 7 year old grand daughter who is less than 4 feet tall. You may have gotten an extra short hook or something.

I will tell you, it took 3 trips in our 5er before I had the courage ot use the awning. Now I'm never without it. I am short, and the metal hook is more than llong enough.

We have a slide type lever on the front awning arm. Slide it up and it moves the mechanism on top. No need to use the hook for this on mine, only to pull down the awning.

I use the hook to flip the trigger, it's kind of like reversing the lock on a ratchet wrench. I then use the hook to pull on the black strap that unfurls the awning.
