We just picked up our new Cedar Creek fifth wheel and was wondering if we need to use a water pressure regulator when we hook up to city
water. We used to have a cab over camper and it required that we
use a water pressure regulator. When we hooked up our new Cedar Creek we used the water pressure regulator, but the water pressure in the unit was so low that you could hardly take a shower. I attached the water pressure regulator to the park connection prior to attaching our water hose, which I then connected to the trailer.
After we got back home and started looking through all of the manuals we got with the trailer it said nothing about having to use
a water pressure regulator. Does this mean that the trailer already has on built in or I don't need to use one or ????

Ours does not. I do use and external regulator. Your CC has a water filtration system on it. That system does cause a little extra pressure drop which reduces flow.

The regulator is there only to prevent over pressurizing and popping a line.

You can add more pressure by also using the water pump.
For a better shower, switch the inside/outside heads. The outside one is better, and you can take out the restrictor if you always use hookups. Much better.

When you fill with fresh, make sure the overflow valve under the trailer is open or you can pop the fresh tank. Best is to reroute the overflow to the small screen vent at the inlet. You can do, or the dealer. Bad design as is, one member blew the tank and broke the floor.

I also have a new Cedar Creek 5th wheel which we put into service on 12-08-04

We experienced the same thing that you have. I have always used a pressure regulator. But have not been able to with my unit.

The water filter is the culprit. As long as that thing is in the unit, a
pressure regulator will be "overkill". So far, I have experienced no adverse consequences by not using the regulator. We are full-timers,
so we have been "connected" since 12-08-04.

I called the factory and they told me that frequently an air pocket
is caused by incorrect installation of the filter. If the technician
does not fill the water canister before inserting the filter, an "airlock" is created.

I don't buy into that, after 2-1/2 months. Air would have "gone away" by then. I think it's just that the water filter system
dampens the water pressure enough to cause the water pressure regulator to operate in "overkill mode".

That's my opinion! Hope this helps!

Enjoy,

Pat

The Forest River water filter only flows at 2.5 gpm. I bought similar filters from Wally World which still fit the canister fine (can't remember which brand) and they flow 5.0 gpm. They also have similar filtration properties and micron ratings. Water pressure was fine after doing this, even with our pressure regulator hooked up outside.

To JTMO, we just took delivery of our new Cedar Creek, but haven't been able to use it yet, as it is winter here in Kansas! Curious about the overflow valve thing when filling the fresh water tank. When we did our walk-through of the 5th wheel, he didn't mention this to us, so we don't have a clue where this valve is.

1. I have had the filter out (used several times in winter) after de-winterizing and it really mad no difference.

2. The valve is next to the fresh water drain under the unit. One is clear white, drain, the other is meshed, overflow. Each unit is defferent though. And maybe we can hope that Cedar Creek has re-thought the overflow problem. The original had no valve, that allowed contamination and siphoning, then the valve. But that caused problems with tight fitting hoses in the inlet.

I don't use one with mine. I have had my unit in service for more than a year now.

We bought one to use with ours, but like you had no water pressure with it on, so we don't use one either. Fulltimers here.

We use our water pressure regulator 99% of the time. Some campgrounds have higher pressure than others and the current capacity load on the campground's system can be a factor. I have had a couple of my previous RV's spring leaks (particularlly under the kitchen sink) due to high water pressure and not using the regulator. We find it's just not worth risk with our current baby.
