My 6 1/2 ' bed has a fixed hitch ( Non-sliding ) and 5r has an extended king pin . I've only pulled it about 30k miles but no problems yet . It's just like life in general--take it slow and KNOW your limitations.

I decided to go with a slider it was only $213.00 added to the total
hitch price .My collision deductible $500.00.. guess it just made sense.

The problem doesn't come under normal circumstances, it comes when you least expect it.
I almost dinged my cab and I have a slider. It happened when I was backing in, real slow and the drop off from the road to the slot caused a "\_/" between the cab and the trailer when the rear wheels rolled over the slight drop.
The trailer got right up against the cab and pinched it ever so sligthtly before I never knew what was happening. If I hadn't been looking directly at that corner or had I been distracted for some reason, it could have been a lot worse.
Like they told me, you may not need it but one time in the life of you setup, but that one time will more than pay for itself.
I strongly recommend it with any 6.5 ft bed.

Buy the slider...cheap insurance for a dumb operator. Having dented my cab..I switched to a slider with no regrets. Slider will help you get out of most jams!

Hi Jason. I was in your shoes a few weeks ago and opted finally for the sliding Husky hitch. It was easy to install and just a couple hundred more for the peace of mind. Now that said when I get the 5ver it will probably not have been needed but wouldnt want to find out the hard way. Good luck and maybe check with someone with the type of 5ver you will be pulling and a truck close to yours.

As Grayeagle stated....I have the shortbed with a slider but did not use it while backing up a grade while turning the 5er fairly sharp. I slightly dinged my right side cabin post. I can turn about 70 degrees I would say on flat ground. Its the uneven ground that caused problems. The truck on one level while the trailer is at an angle upward if that makes sense. I have the extended hitch on the fiver also. Its a cruiser. I use my slider now...lesson learned.

You don`t need a slider if you have an extended pin on the trailer.

In reference to all those that advise a slider is not needed for extended pin boxes...it's not always true....
Some manufacturers are using extended pin boxes but they are mounted so far under some models...they shouldn't be called extended. It's really about how far the pin is or ISN"T out in front of the fiver's front cap.
The bottom line is like weight...you gotta measure...(just like you gotta weigh) to know the whole truth. Then you gotta calculate where the cap will wind up when turning...then you have to look at your cap and evaluate whether you will hit on uneven ground.
Now you know why so many just buy a pullrite....

We have a slider. Hubby is a trucker and that was a no brainer.
Just got back from a beautiful campground in florida and site was tight. The slider worked great. I understand your comment about some who spare no expense, but our truck is worth a whole lot more to us than a few dollars for a slider. Remember that's why they are called accidents.
