We've been thinking about trading trailers, so have been off/on looking over the last year. We found a Keystone we like. We started to look seriously only to find the 2006 models online and on a dealer lot don't seem to be 2006 at all. The floor plan is identical to the 2005. By floor plan, I don't mean major differences, but sink placement, and little things that distinguish one years model from the next. Yet, it is clearly labeled 2006. It "came off the line" just a couple of weeks ago.

We found another online listed as 2006 but the color was not even made in 2005. Could a 2004 model be listed as a 2006? Could this explain some instances of rust, etc. I've seen described on this board. Is it possible that trailers not sold, get sent back, spiffed up, and declared 2006? If not, can somebody explain?

One district rep. did tell us that when they do make a change on a model, they do not wait until the next model year, they implement immediately "on the line." But if the trailer came off the line in the 2006 model year, shouldn't it have the floor plan of the brochure?

Thanks,
Wendy

Hi Wendy!

It seems that most companies start making the next model year about half way through the calendar year. It always has seemed a little odd to me however it seems to have become the norm with auto's as well as rv's.

We've had a couple of TT's that were "Tagged" with MFG dates a year earlier..as an example, one was a '59 Rainbow...but registered as an '60...a friend has a '95 according to the title..but the MFG plate plainly states that it was MFG'd in June of '94. Interesting.

Wendy, we looked at Keystone travel trailers and many others and tried to compare the brochures, specifications etc with the ones on the lot.Needless to say, the manufacturers don't always get the new tweeked models in the brochures. If you will look on the label on the outside front end, you will find the date of production. We have owned 3 Keystone Sprinters and have never regretted our decision.

The trailer I just bought was sold as a 2006. The date of manufacture on the trailer is 07/2005. I always thought this was hokey and wonder how they get away with "pre-dating" a sold unit. According to the way most things work they should just be new 05 models.

Look at the disclaimer on the brochure it tells it all!

Probably goes something like this: "Models and features are subject to change without notice"

What I have found with most manufactures, they carry over models until they can't sell the volume that they need to meet profitability. Minor changes in features and materials typically change when a source for components or materials either get too expensive or not available, for example back in 2004 manufacturers had a tough time coming up with stoves with ovens, hence a lot of trailers were only built with cook top ranges.

We bought our 2004 model trailer in Summer 2003.
Its VIN (10th digit) corresponds to the year 2004.

This is a normal occurrence that happens each year in the auto industry as well. You can buy a 2006 car, truck or van (with the matching VIN) as early as last Summer and Gm is almost set to release some 2007 SUV's and trucks by spring 2006.

Its a marketing tool or thing or what ever you want to call it.
It isn't always what you sell, but HOW YOU SELL IT!

Mike.

We have a 2006 Sunline T-1950, mfg'd in March 05 - with '05 interior. The '06's have jallots on the windows (vs curtains), different fabric patterns and scissor jacks (vs. stabilizing jacks) undercarriage, those are the only difference that I noted. DW would like to have the jallots and I would like the scissor jacks, but since we paid '05 price and got an '06 we are leaving well enough alone.

When we went to p/u the TT this spring (May 05) even our dealer was surprised to see that it came thru as an 06, he wanted to look at his invoice from Sunline and said "oh my" and DW QUICKLY replied, if the price is going up, get us our 05 that we ordered....no more comments from the dealer!

They always pre date model years. It is a marketing gimmic. Many people want the newest (and best?) thing. They start the next model year in the middle of the previous year so it will be a new vehicle even if it sits on the lot for a year. I have a 2006 fifth wheel I've used for 2 months now and it's not even 2006 yet!

The TT in our sig is a 2006 and it was supposed to be one of the first to come off of the line and that was in June 05'. As a side, we love our Sprinter and are convinced we made a good decision on our first TT.

And then there was winter...
