Regarding the auto industry: My 1998 Ford Windstar is manufactured in January 1997! They probably started building the car at the end of 1996.

Your question was well addressed, I would like to add that I am in the repair and troubleshooting business and really like our Keystone Sprinter, I have made hundreds of Mod's to it, just because I just can't stop myself from tinkering and adding on. It would have been fine 'as is'. I would buy another one without hesitation.
Good luck, and welcome to the Forum.

Standard boilerplate in any RV brochure or on their web sites states: "All models and specifications subject to change without notice". What difference does it make. Find one you like a buy it.

This thread seems to have detracted from the original question ... no one disputes that a "model year" is built in the previous year. Anything labeled 2006 was built in 2005, 2005 was built in 2004, etc. That's not the point.
I think Wendy's question pertained to the re-dating of unsold trailers. Meaning if there were no major changes from year to year, are manufacturers taking 2005 models (models they intended to sell as a 2005 model-year) and re-labeling them as 2006 models. An analogy would be to imagine your local car dealer has several 2005 cars on the lot that didn't sell and he went out and re-labeled them as 2006's.

IndianaJones,
If that is the question, then I think that you should be able to identify the year from the VIN, right. I am sure that the VIN process should identify the year somewhere? The dealer could mark my 05 pickup as an 06, but the VIN does not lie. I would like to know if TT's are the same.

I doubt the manufacturer would do that with a TT. Prices don't typically increase a lot for the same models in one year. But who knows? The dealer could but I'm thinking there is a law against that. Anything unsold is simply unsold and can still be sold as new - even if it's not the current year. You can still by "new" '04 and '05 vehicles with the '06's. You'll take one heck of a depreciation hit, but you can do it. I don't know if it's the same for RVs, but I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Exactly, Indiana Jones! But am learning a lot from all the posts:-)
The trailer we looked at supposedly just came off the line. Should be a 2006, right? But the floorplan was that of 2005. Now that might be explained if it was made in 2005 (early for 2006) and they've made floorplan changes not implemented til later. But it JUST came "off the line." The one we saw online was labeled a 2005, but was in a color scheme not available in 2006 or 2005 and it was not the 2006 floorplan, either. (Guessing unless some exception was made and it was custom-made that it had to be 2004 based on interior color alone)
This just got our suspicious minds to wondering if these trailers that don't sell could be shipped back, spiffed a bit (new interiors) and brought back out as new models. I wouldn't want to pay a 2006 price for a 2004 trailer. Intropy, you know. :-)
How can you determine the year of the model by the VIN number? Is there a specific digit which indicates this?
We may end up ordering. Surely they'd have to deliver a 2006 that way. It doesn't make a big difference, but the 2006 does have some bells/whistles we'd like.
Thanks!

The thing about keystone is that they are constantly changing and upgrading. When I ordered my TT in my sig I saw a new 2005 on the lot but I wanted a diferent interior color. When mine came in, It had a porcelain toilet and a nicer shower than the one on the lot (at no extra cost). The dealer also told me that even though mine is a 2005 Keystone stopped making my model (and this was in Nov. of '04). Now they are putting a slide in the bedroom. So it doesn't suprise me that the same two TT models have differences. I would suggest ordering, then you will get the most recent upgrades.

Hi
Another reason why you may find some difference in published info and actual unit is the Manufacturer having a limited edition or special edition.
Now if its a SE or a LE it really doesn't mean what you would think there not an exclusive model with special features or options. They typically are quite the opposite, what they are are a limited run or a special run through there production schedule. When a manufacture has excess manufacturing ability or excess new/ old component inventories, they will create a Special production schedule. The Special production schedule means they will select one floorplan and build them all the same using the same interior colors, features or options and use up any new component/ old inventory of raw materials or parts, with no deviation during this production run.
Manufacturers typically will discount these units in exchange for large volume orders from a dealer, they can be very profitable for dealers, because most people look at them as special editions and pay the same or more than a standard production run floorplan.
So when your out looking at an RV and you see 50 of the same model and color with a slightly older designed stove or awning chances are they are a Special Edition from a Special Production Run. A couple of things I have noticed on these units is they tend to have a longer list of standard features and a better fit and finish, more consistency during production.

Wendy,
The VIN numbers are registered when they are built. You should be able to check those to confirm the mfr registered date for that particular TT. As far as I know, they can't go back into the system to alter the date it's registered as.
Most likely the 05 you were looking at was indeed made in 04 with maybe a couple of updates and registered as an 05. Our new Keystone is, according to the VIN #, a 2006 model. However, we bought it in June of this year, so it was made even earlier. There have been some additional cosmetic changes to the same model since then and they are still called 2006 models. Obviously, looking at ours and one of the "newer" 06's, you'd question whether ours was indeed a 2006. Heck, I'm surprised they don't have the 2008 models out already!
