So, you are talking about "angle" in the horizontal plane. My Jayco has the same thing - the scissor jacks mounted at a slight angle. This is a different angle than the telescoping jacks. The telescoping jacks extend more from the center of the trailer frame down to the ground at an angle. The scissor jacks come straight down - although they can be reoriented by angling them. This angling does nothing for improved stability. The angling that is inherent with the telescoping kind should.

My bad...I thought we're were talking about scissor jacks. I have often wondered how effective the telescoping type stabilizer jacks are at stabilizing. I agree in theory they should be lots better, but I haven't heard anyone claiming they're better than the standard fix ----Rotochocks.

I built these rear stabilizers and they do a very good job of suppressing the side to side motion, more details on a thread I posted couple of weeks ago.

I bought a pair of scissor jacks that I plan to install this weekend. I'm going to look into installing them at an angle. Seems like a good idea.

lheebie...keeping them (jacks) from extending much would/should make them more stable and resistant to side to side motion. I have a couple 4x4's that I always use under my jacks, perhaps I'll try a couple more.
W7AAD...I was wondering about trying to tie the jacks together also.

Great idea Camshaft, my wife is 100 pounds lighter than I am, I'll give it a try. Well maybe not, normally she is 5 foot nothing but when she is hot she can't walk through a 7 foot doorway without ducking. My kids call her Yoda.

I was thinking about turning my scissor jacks 90 degrees on the back of our 5er until I found that the manufacturer had welded them on instead of bolting them up. My jacks are perpendicular to the frame. So much for that idea. I already have the front to back movement taken care of with the rotochoks so it wouldn't have been a bid deal. The pin stabilizer has done basically nothing to stop the side to side. These scissor jacks are probably weak in every direction anyway, but was a thought...

W7AAD:
For the cross-braces that you added to the rear scissor jacks, did that feature alone help cut down on the motion? This essentailly looks like a home-made version of the Solid Setter or the Strong-Arm from JT's RV Accessories. It is also similar to the Solid-as-a-Rock stabilizer from Blue Ox. Your design looks well thought out and adaptive. Does it really help?

Thanks for sharing. I might copy some of what you've done for my own application.

tundracamper, yes the rear stabilizers I built cut down on the side to side motion at least 80 percent, If I had built the rear ones first it might have been good enough with out using one up front also. I could push side to side on the rear bumper almost 2 inches, now it is less than 1/2 inch with the stabilizers set. It was bad on my fiver because it sets so high off the ground.

I installed mine yesterday and mounted them at an angle. We'll see how it works. The ideas seems sound to me.
