I purchased a new 06 dually V-10 4:30 gears for carrying our 10.6 Bigfoot to avoid haveing to buy air bags, special shocks and the like.We took our first trip from the BC interior to the coast and it was very evident that help was required in the back end. Purchased Firestone air bags while on Vancouver island, what a differance. Truck has the proper attitude now, headlights are aimed at the road again.Truck/camper wieght without water, clothes, or food is 10900#. GVW is 12600#
Anyone else have to put bags on a dually? My Dad has a 04 dually GMC with a 9.5 Adventurer no bags required. What's the deal? The Ford has a higher GVW.

I put the Firestones on my 03 Dodge dually for an 11 1/2' AF, with my 9.6 BF, I didn't need them, but was nice to adjust the height.
I'm having the on-board compressor installed which will be nice to level the rig when in the campsite. Use the bags to get it level and put down the jacks for stability and you're set.

I did not need them on my Dodge/AF 990, but do with the Ford/AF 990. The Ford seems to be a bit soft aft...Oh, well-it works fine now! ChuckD

wl,
We also have a F350 (2000' V10), payload is approx 4800#s. The Snowbird probably weighs in around 4000# loaded up. Drove it for a couple of years and it seemed to sag a bit in the rear...not too bad.
Had the Firestone airbags installed and it made a huge difference. Not that it was bad before, just much better with the air bags. Love those duallies

I have the "Airlift" bags on my F350 dually. The 981 Max is a bit over 4k pounds loaded and I'm grossing about 10,500.

My Bigfoot 10'6 seems to ride just fine on my 05 Dodge 3500 qc drw 4x4 although this is my first tc and have never had airbags, Ranchos, timbrens, or supersprings.

There was a post awhile back about a fellow that had a Chevy dually and hauled his camper on it without any air bags or aftermarket add ons and it set about ,if I remember right, about 1/2" from the stops. He then bought a new Ford dually and with the same camper and it was about 1/4" from the stops. He wondered the same thing. It seems that the Fords have a higher GVWR but they squat more than the other 2 with the same loads. It does seems strange.

This is IMO

I find no reason to put air bags of my rig. The head lights don't seem to be a problem and it handles fine stock. Ed

What exactly do you mean by "very evident help was required"? Some people seem to think that if the rear drops at all when loaded that they need to put bags on it and jack it back up. Did the truck set with the rear lower then the front? If not the simple (and free) way to get: "the headlights aimed at the road again", would have been a few turns on the adjusters.
