Yeah - you don't want to have sense of humor during a crisis. If you can't joke (or complement someone for that matter) in a private email, how far have we sunk.

Ken,

Interesting info, considering at one time I had over 40 Cooper tires on different rigs, and have YET to have a blow out on any of the 70 or so Cooper branded tires I have owned. Then again, I do NOT live in the higher temp climates that the article alludes too. With that, I would buy another set etc, as I personally have found them to be the one of the better bang for the buck tires.

Like a lot of things in life, it all seems to depend upon the "who, what, where and how" as to if it will or will not work etc. Not to mention the bean counters hoping that things will work for the best etc, when they should be the ones fined etc, for making a companies policy, not the share holders etc.

I have no problem with humor during any situation, though there needs to
be "some" or "reasonable" discretion used.

I don't think they were "joking around", but part of their normal
banter and indicates their level/kind of thinking.

Plus they are public service, so there is no "private" in anything
done via publicly owned media/vehicles. That includes paper memos
and phone conversations.

If they were "just kidding", then very poor judgement and timing, IMHO.

It is interesting to note in reading the news report that Tires used in Arizona should have an 'A' temperature rating.
According to this SITE only 27% of tires made have the 'A' rating.
It is also intersting to note that the artical doesn't specify the temperature rating of the tires that appear to be failing.

My Coopers are doing just fine!! I live in south Alabama and the Discoverer HTs are rated "B" for temperature. My Firestone Steeltex R4S II's were rated "B" and I never had a problem with them (other than riding like they were made out of stone!)

Even Michelin LTS M/S have a B temperature rating in many sizes. I think underfinflation is the biggest culprit in tire failure. Most folks (none here!) think that if the rim isn't rubbing on the pavement, the tire is OK.

I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

Mostly only High performance tires will come with an A rating. Most truck, passenger, and trailer tires will have a B rating.

If true, I'm lucky I live in Ohio because I absolutely love my Cooper Discoverer ATR's.

BTW, a Google news search of Cooper Tire has zero links to Cooper tire failures in hot climates.

There is always the possibility that the news guys might just have been trying to sell commercials during the newcast. I mean that is ultimately his job. Why should we assume his story is accurate?

Also don't forget Nov is a Sweeps month. Expect every story possible to be sensationalized to the limit.
