I'm moving to the country and will not have access to cable internet service. Can anyone tell me who they think has the best satellite internet service plan? I would also appreciate any additional info on the pro's and con's of satellite internet service.

There are a few companies that provide sat-internet

Verizon has it
Hughes is what I use
Starband (Bit less expensive than Hughes)
Wild Blue (not good for RVers but perhaps better for stick houses)
I-Direct

And in some areas you can get 2-way radio Internet

You may also have cellular internet options depending on where you park.

One of the 2-way radio services is I-2000 http://www.i2k.net/

We use HughesNet with a MOTSAT DISH. Also have DIRECTTV....just spent two weeks without Verizion cell service, but still had internet. MotoSAt ,turn it on, push one button , dish deploys on internet in few minutes.

Here at home I use hughesnet. On the road ATT Air Card. Hughes if setup correctly is usually pretty good, I have the $89 a month package it supposed to be 1.5 down I usually get like 1.2-1.4 down link and a whopping 50-150 up link. But where I am its the best thing going. The thing with the Aircards are the services that are accepting new members now only allow 5gb a month tranfer. That is true with Verizon, Sprint, and ATT. However ATT is forgiving but Verizon will charge you a quarter a MB over 5 gb that could add up quickly. A couple of updates and your in trouble if your a daily user and surf sites with alot of photos or videos.

Our choice is Hughes. And we are very glad we went with sat rather than an air card.

We don't want to spend the money on both and the cellular reception at our cottage is lousy. We have to go out to the road to talk. Had the same situation at several of the CG's we have spent time in.

One advantage with a system like Hughes rather than Wild Blue, is that you can take the Hughes system with you. Wild blue is not "portable". Don't know about the others mentioned.

For fixed based operation I took down my satellite internet ONLY direct,, I got the dish, pole ,inside the house router and all the cables.. yours if you come to Texas and get it.. you can then set it up and get it aimed and call anyone you want to turn it on..

Let me know.I "may" still have pictures of it if you need.
