Thanks for the warning Horseplay since we'll be staying in a KY state campground this weekend. I was mad enough to see the $7.50 on the last reservation I made, so I'm really going to be ****** to have to pay it again!! It's for sure I'll be making no more reservations through them!

From two post before yours - it a Free subscription. You do not have to subscribe.

You really need to read the offer again. You are getting a magazine subscription valued at 10.00 with your reservation free.

They are not charging you for the magazine whether it is checked or not.

This was NOT for a subscription - it was listed as "reservation fee"

ThunderingQuiet it isn't the magazine subscriptions, it has to do with reservation fees. RA is charging both sides - Owner of parks and people making the reservations?

So, RA is getting $15.00 total for each reservation from 1/2 from consumer and 1/2 from campground? Wow!

Campground will charge if you use RA thread

Hello To all,
Just returned from the Ky Horse Park Campground in Lexington, Ky. Nice place and plenty of room. I was in the camp store and saw a notice that said that effective immediately they will pass along a $7.50 reservation fee if you reserved through Reserve America. They indicated that this was a fee that they had been paying in the past but now due to the economy they were going to start passing it along to YOU!!
I asked them how I could avoid the fee and they said if you called the campground directly to make the reservation they would not charge the extra $7.50.
Just trying to pass this along to others to help you know what to expect for camp rate when you arrive.

Happy Camping

I think they got me too! I just recd an outdoor life mag. Ive also recd Field and Stream and Backpacker. I thought it was some sort of freebies arriving to get me interested in the mags...

Guess I'll have to contact the mags and see what is going on...

But some say they get it for free?? Guess I have to review all my credit card receipts.

UGHH - I think the Attorney General should do something about these add-ons...

kohldad wrote:

Hmmm, they got me at least once, if not twice. I'll have to be much more careful plus track down the two subscriptions. I had just thought my mother-in-law had ordered the mags for me as a gift. Now I need to track them down and make sure they are not automatically renewing and be much more careful in the future.

We all need to contact ReserverAmerica and complain about the tactic. They are already making money under the contract but want to get greedier by pulling one over their users.

The thing that frustrates me is that when you make an online reservation,or buy tickets, there is no person involved that has to do any work and they charge you for that.If you call the park or venue, not ticketmaster, there is no reservation fee.. Go figger. There may be a deposit, but no res fee on top..

I sent an email to Backpacker asking where the order came from. They responded within 1 business day and politely explained that it was a Free Subrscription through Reserve America. I've made two reservation with this free offer so my subscription is good through Aug 2010.

Also sent an email to Outdoor, but haven't received word back from them but assume it's the same offer. I went back and checked all of my reservations, all the way back to 2005 and didn't find any extra charges.

So I'm back to being happy again and enjoying at least the BackPacker magazine.

We received Backpacker and Business Aviation magazine.

How in the world did they know hubby is a pro pilot? Lucky guess or did the "system" Google his name?

Emailed Backpacker and received a nice reply that they will stop our mailings. We don't want to pay for mail forwarding. Trashed the BA prior to contacting them, I will do that when/if we receive another.

Thanks for the alert---we'd been wondering why these mags were coming. Happened to a couple others in our little camping club at work. The result has been that every effected called the magazines to make sure that they stopped delivery and letters were sent to reserve america, the south carolina park system and the north carolina park system (our group frequent parks in these states). The letter to reserve america informed them that because they chose to use underhanded tactics involving these mags that the members of our group would no longer use them in making reservations. the state parks were informed of the underhanded business practices that reserve america was using and asked them if they wanted to be a part of that. (the hope is that the state park system will put pressure on ra to stop this practice). We called the state parks we frequent and were told that all we had to do to make reservations with them directly was to tell them that we didnt want to go through RA.

You may want to double check, but at least with South Carolina, even if you walk in to the campground, they still book the site through Reserve America and charge the $1.50/day reservation fee. At least this is how our site was handled when we went to Aiken SP late last year on a spur of the moment trip knowing sites would be available.
