I think youve had a few very good answers (top heavy not being one of them). The tallest legal limit without a permit is 13'6". Take some of
the good advice, like measuring it your self, and you will be fine.
My biggest consern is low tree limbs, especilly after a rain. Ive seen rain lower a limb as much as 1', just be aware of your height and you7 will do just fine.

I am guessing that with a 38' trailer, you are planning your route in advance - if not, I highly recommend that you do. One of the great tools we have today is the satellite views of the landscape. If you see a semi on the road, you will be fine (yes - there are semis pulling open trailers).

I am listed at 13'3", I plan my route, I have snagged some branches, but I do not see a problem at 13'4".

Good luck and enjoy.

Just goes to show...NEVER, EVER trust the specs! Go measure it, weight it, see it, taste it, smell it, whatever....get the ACTUAL!

Hopefully, do it all before buying.

We made sure to measure ours too...especially after adding the low-profile 2nd AC. Brochure said 12'8" (before A/C), we measured in at 13'2" with A/C.

Has given several scares, especially off the interstates in the northeast. Just went to a campground on the coast of Maine. Followed directions in Trailerlife, and nothing was mentioned about the 13'3" bridge just before the turnoff to the campground. We had to wait for traffic to clear in both directions and put ourselves right in the center, as some else said, "I held my breath all the across"!!

One thing we've found invaluable is the Pro-Drivers (Trucker's Atlas)...it lists low-clearances on most every road in the country. Has saved our neck several times...won't be without it! Whenever we venture of the interstates we definitely check the route in our atlas.

I'm going to pick that up right away. Probably get it when I take the new fiver straight to the scales on it's maiden voyage from the dealer to my house!

Near my house I have a 12'0" bridge I can squeak under and an 11'6" I can't. Also talked to a camper who took down wires in a campground :-(

We looked at fifth wheel trailers this weekend.
We eliminated several for consideration because, even at 6' tall, I could not reach the vents in the ceiling. How are you supposed to open and close the vents? A step ladder? This seems to be a bad idea.
Seemed a little too tall.
Just my two cents worth.

rouleau,

All of the fivers we have looked at had power vents for high locations. You might want to check this.

This Jayco, 2009 model, had just screened vents with hand cranks.
