Hello all, this is my first post here although i have been lurking for awhile. I have only been RVing for two years now,and i'm looking for advise on a auxillary fuel tank for a 2000 Chev K2500 crew cab with a 7.4 gas engine. Anyone use an auxillary tank for gasoline?

Vertical or horizontal tank configuration? Pump feed or gravity feed? What brand? Are you satisfied with the quality & construction?
Any pros or cons that i have overlooked?

I'm towing a 30' fifth wheel and need more range. I currently carry a filled five gallon can for just in case.

Thank you for your input. mark454

i know what you mean about extended range. I've been thinking about the same thing as the stock tank I have only gets me about 2 hrs of driving when i'm towing. I did find a link to a large tank that sits in the stock location, it's double the capacity of the stock. I also carry 2 5 gallon jerry cans in case. If you google slip tank, auxillary tanks and that sort of thing, lots of returns will come back. I've personally never seen auxillary gas tanks in the beds of trucks. State laws may limit what you can install there too.

Check out transfer flow. IIRC they have DOT certified gasoline tanks.

There are many diesel tank makers, but fewer gasoline.

I've thought about it too but a strech after a few hours of driving is nice too.

Gravity feed gasoline tanks are not legal. Gravity feed diesel tanks are legal.

Arrow and Tranfer Flow make aftermarket extra capacity tanks that go in the stock location. They are quite pricey but are the best choice for carrying extra gas besides using military style jerry cans or motorcycle fuel jugs.

SoCalDesertRider has it absolutely correct. No gravity feed for gas. A larger replacement tank may be the best choice since it retains the stock pump and float. However in my last gas rig, I installed an RDS tank in the bed along with a second pump, float and the necessary 6 port valve.

My 45 gallon DOT approved tank came from American Tank in Dallas, TX. Like Transferflow they are not cheap as they have their own fuel pump, float, and what ever else the gov required.

I've had a 50 gal in bed Transfer Flow tank in my truck for 5 years and am very happy with it. I went with the in bed tank because for gals added it was less money per gal than a replacement tank. The advantage to me is that you don't have to be hunting for a convenient station as often and can stay on the road stopping to stretch where you want. 76 gals verses 26 means a big difference in number of gas stops.
