We have the Firestone Air Bags with the onboard compressor and gauge.
We are happy we did it that way.
I just set the gauge when we load up the fiver and don't even have to
think about it again. Very dependable!

for the price of a compressor, I dont think I need to spend that kind of money on one, I can do alot of pumpin up with my compressor for doin it manually, I have had the compressor in my other truck but really dont think it hurts me to take 3 Mins out of my day to fill the bags on this truck.

I have had Airlift airbags since 2001 on my F250. I dont think I would invest in a compressor for these reasons. Money, weight and mine dont leak. I dont require much pressure to level out even when carrying our 5th wheel and 14 full scuba diving tanks. That was a bunch - about 45# was it. So when driving unloaded, it wasnt a big deal driving while they were up for the time while camping.
Firestone and Airlift are identical. Here is my writeup.

I guess I'm in the minority here... I put about 8 psi in my bags unloaded which ends up being about 20 psi when the FW squats my truck 2". I have not changed it since I installed it. I've got about 2600# on my pin and it rides fine.
I can't comment on the convenience of things I don't have... but a compressor for my airbags is not high on my list of thinks I wish I had.

We have the Firestone's with the in-cab controls and air tanks in both of our trucks. Since they both do different jobs, they get used differently.
The bags in the Dodge with the Truck Camper gets the pressure changed in the different bags on the fly pretty often as the weight changes so much with the fuel usage, water usage (and location of that "water") and how much "stuff" I need, and the road conditions, (that's a biggie!), I can firm or soften the ride to make it better for me.
Hubby finds that with the fiver the ride does not change so much, so for the most part tweaks them around to get things just right and they stay that way.
They are handy to raise and lower the hitch on either truck for hitching and un-hitching the boat more easily too.
We have had them on both rigs since new, and would not be with out the adjust-ability. They are on the MUST have side of the list for any future rigs.
They should never be linked.

I have firestone with the pump would never do without, push a know to air up or down. If your on rough concrete roads you cand soften the ride a little or if your driving at night you can adjust headlight hight.

I built my own for the bags and Ranchos for about 80-$90 using a Costco compressor. I won't go back to manual! Craig

I used a load lever compressor out of a Buick, $15. A couple of gauges, 1 flow control to seperate the bags, 1 regulator and a manual check valve (an old air horn valve).
