We've retired, put the house on the market, and are ready to full time for at least a year when it sells.

We have been shopping for a fifth wheel for several months now, and had pinned it down to a Carriage Cameo -- or so we thought!

Then we went to the big Hershey Show a couple of weeks ago, and found more fivers in that price range ($50,000-$70,000) that look really good to us. They seem to compare favorably with the Cameo, but we've only talked with the salesmen at the show. We liked the Cedar Creek and the Grand Junction. We also looked briefly at the Heartland Landmark.

Any comments, thoughts and recommendations out there? Has anyone had experience with any of these, including the Carriage Cameo?

We love our 08 Montana 3400RL. The layout gives us more of a feeling of a home. Has good storage and weight capacities too.

Any of them will do a good job for you. You must decide for yourselves.

I can't comment on the other brands since we have no experience with them; but we own a Cameo and are very happy with it.

Find the floor plan that "fits" your lifestyle and that you like. That will be the 5er for you! Good luck.

Howdy!

While looking make sure the company is still in business and hopes of remaining in business. There are a lot of companies going under which means no warranty. One of the best full-time RV's Teton just went under.

Thanks to all for your replies.... we've heard some fivers cannot hold up to full timing. How do we determine which are full timing quality and which are not? Are there certain things we should be looking for?

We heard about Teton .... I actually asked a Carriage manufacturer rep at the show if the company was in good financial condition. Of course, he told me yes......

I would suggest you look at manufacturers who advertise fulltime. Peterson Industries (Excel), Double Tree, Carriage. Any and all have the potential for issues. I noted these three because I know they advertise fulltime units. That does not mean other manufacturers products won't hold up (Personally, I like the Montana).

Regarding financial condition. Good luck to all of us if the past two weeks on Wall Street continue to play out. Who knows who has the financial strength to continue, RV manufacturer or not.

Sound advice there. Having two kids under the age of three, we really looked a kid friendly floor plans and finally decided on our Cougar. We looked at some Montanas as well, but the floorplans weren't what we were looking for.

Cameo is a nice trailer. But you need to be aware that the black and grey water tanks are only 40 gallons each, not 45 gallons as currently claimed nor 50 gallons claimed for years. This is true for all Cameos made the last 8 years and also on 2009 models.

If you can live with 40 gallon tanks Cameo is a good choice.
