This past weekend while camping our lights and fan on the furnace kept dimming/slowing. We were connected to power. The converter fan would kick on and everything seemed to run at full power, but when the converter fan kicked off, the lights and furnace fan would dim. Any suggestions?

Check your battery it sounds like it is dead. Some converters require a good battery to operate correctly. It would help if you could provide the make and model of the converter.

I'm not disagreeing with the previous comment but it was my understanding that the fan came on when there was such a draw on the converter that would be neccesary to disapate the heat from the inverter. The draw would depend on the number of items on or draw and most likely the fan would come on as the items were turn on, not just sitting there and I can't think why, if the battery is dead that the lights would come back up with the fan ooming on. It could also be that your AC from the shore hook up is experience low voltage and as it comes back to full voltage the light and fan have full voltage to do there job. Checking the battery is easy enough to do and then I would be check the voltage during and after your " dim out" OK?
Happy camping.

Remove or disconnect the battery and see if all returns to normal.

Thanks, I'll try disconnecting the battery tonight and also get the converter information.

Sounds like a problem I had...I replaced the battery and had the same problem another six weeks or so later had to replace the converter. The new battery checked good when I replaced the converter.

I checked the battery and it is showing 13.5 volts. I think the converter is made by WFCO and is either a WF-8935, WF-8945 or WF-8955. I did not see any information on the converter itself.

Did you check the fluid in the battery? Maybe it boiled dry. Chris

Is the battery reading 13.5v with the converter on? - Make sure you check it disconnected from the rest of the system. If it reads ok, then you have a weak power supply in the RV. I think (but not sure) that most of these power supplies are of the linear type (one transformer and a bunch of electronic parts) vs the switching type (several transformers). Linears can be fixed if you know someone who knows how to work on them, switching might as well toss...
