The battery was reading 13.5 connected and disconnected to the converter. I filled the battery cells last night, it only took about 1 1/2 cups for all 6 cells.

My guess is that the power supply has a problem with heat - you said that when the fan was on all was well. One thing I forgot to mention, make sure that the vents to the power supply are clean and clear of everything. Other than that it sounds like it is on its way out (if I was near by I would love to look at it).

Thanks John. We have one more trip planned for this year. I'll see how it does then and may start looking for a new converter.

If the campground power is working okay, make sure you have a battery charger with you to keep up your battery should the converter go all together, this will allow you to keep your battery charged for lights and all the other 12 volt stuff you need...

Same here with our previous 5th wheel. The battery was about 6yrs old anyhow so no big loss. The Converter was $240 and all was well.

The owners manuals that came with my trailer had a write up about the converter doing this when it got too hot. It would shut the 12v off until it cooled off. Then it would be ok again. With no battery attached, the lights and any 12v device would die. With a good battery attached, it would dim the lights and slow any 12v fan until it cooled enough to let the converter kick back on. Either the converter is going bad or overloaded. I have noticed it does not do it with fewer lights on or anything else drawing 12v

I had a similar problem with mine. It was a good lesson that you replace both batteries if you have 2. The one older battery was dying and drawing the other battery down and making the converter over work. Having worked with battery circuits for the last 40 years before I retired I have found that any time over 5 years on a deep cycle battery is a bonus. I usually look at replacing after 5 years and get prepared to do so. It is also advisable to check the water levels regularly. I have the largest battery that will fit in my rig which is almost twice the size of the original and have never put more than a cup of water in it and this was after not using the unit for 4 months and hooked to power. Forgot to turn off the converter and hook up charger before going away.
