I was wondering if anyone lubes there 5th wheel hitch. I have never but I read in Trailer life someone had their hitch pin break loose because they didn't lube. I just wondering where you need to lube and what type of lube to put on.

I don't use any lube on top of the hitch plate. I have a lube plate there. But I do put white lithium grease around the inside of the hitch latching mechanism where the pin is captured. And I also put the grease around the pivot points on the hitch where it swivels front to back and side to side.

I use a disc on top and slip plate on all moving mechanisms.

Teflon disc on the top but grease on the pivots and lock mechanism. Basically wherever metal rubs on metal.

I believe the article you were reading is in this month's Trailer Life, the damage was to a Super Glide. The company said that the hitch pretty much welded it's self in one possition due to the way tubes not beeing properly lubricated. When the way tubes are not lubed properly , that can cause the metal to heat and virtually weld together....Joe

I use white grease I buy in a small tube and squeeze alittle around the pin.
We have an airhitch and it was greased yesterday.

I had a clacking sound as I towed mine and checked with the local dealer. He said to lube around the pin where it turns inside the hitch jaws. I did and the sound went away. I didn't know that needed grease but I am glad I asked about the noise. If you don't do it yet, do it now.
