You could just be a low tech guy like me and put grease on it.
It is your call.
run it dry
grease it
or get the high tech plate
I think it is one of those things of doing what turns your crank, and if that ends up doing like the masses do then that is fine.
putting grease on it turns my crank.

Need to ask , does this put another nail in the coffin of those expensive auto sliders ?? Sounds like there is a fair amount of attention reguired on them ?? , just wondering . I have to ask another guestion since they were brought up. Do these auto sliders slide back and forth everytime you turn a corner ??, thus the heating problem ???
Back to the guestion .I have a reese 18k slider I lube the grease zerk thats on it, and use the lube plate. No grease on the slide, slides very well without, and I don't use it very often. Grease or no grease it is not going to weld itself together

On page 3 it discusses lubrication. At a quick glance, dont see any mention of heat, but galling.

I use White Lithium grease on my hitch, slides and landing gear/stabalizers.
Personally Im a believer that is it is suppose to move, lubricate it.
If it isnt, superglue it.

They tell you to just spray the tubes b-4 each trip , this takes seconds to do.Than once a year take it apart and clean and re-spray the way tubes. Evedently the poster on that particular add had not touched his slider since day 1....or so they say?? It litterly takes me less than 5 minutes to spray my tubes b-4 a trip. As long as they are coated , there is no metal on metal thus no heating up. And I purchased the auto slider because I did not have to get out and un-latch the slider every sharp turn that I make.It may not be needed , but I feel more comfortable knowing that. Joe

In nearly 9 years I've never greased mine, unless a McDonalds french fry happens to land on it. It sets outside in the weather 365 days a year. I do use the teflon plate. I'm sure I should grease it, but I haven't and everything seems fine. (The paint is peeling and it's getting rusty, but grease wouldn't have helped that.)

Hey folks, the pivot points that are metal on metal have to be greased. If you use the teflon disk then you don't have to grease the contact surface of the hitch but you still need to grease the pin where it contacts with the jaws. Common sense here!!!
