I used the teflon disc until I got the Super Glide. I've always used small amounts of grease on moving parts, including the king pin. On the super glide I use the slip plate on the way tubes, and usually light amounts of greast on all the other parts. They also say to use a light lube on the 5th plate. There is still a little movement there.

I see a few here saying they use white litium grease. Is that the consensus or is there other grease ya'll use. I was thinking of using marine grease as it might hold up better to the elements? Let's say you?

I use a lube plate, a regular grease gun on the zerk. And Dupont teflon dry lube on the tubes, jaw, kingpin, and any thing else that moves. I really like that Dupont teflon lube, its clean and doesent attract and hold dust and best of all it works real well.

as skidood says I use a dry lube spray. However I did completly disassemble my new hitch and lightly lube all the hitch head working parts with red grease. The slider parts get the dry lube as they are exposed to more dirt issues. That was in '03 and the hitch head and slider still work great. I tried the white lithium spray but that attracted to much dirt or wood debree or hay or whatever else that was blowing around in the bed of the truck.
I haven't found a teflon lube disc but I do use the nylon lube disc.

Excellent point, Joe. I am guilty of NOT doing that(lazy, i guess). I will start today, mainly because I leave the hitch in the truck and it gets washed every once in a while. I know wash removes some of the grease. Thanks for the pointer.

PLEASE!!

I keep a can of spray grease in the front storage compartment of the fiver. It only takes a few seconds to spray the king pin and the slide rod that opens the jaws when I hook up. Sure is nice not to have to fight rust and resistance when I try to pull the slide when unhooking. This grease is available at most auto stores and is about the size of a large WD 40 can. It also helps to clean the surfaces on occasion to remove ant dirt that may be stuck in the grease. I have a teflon pad on my trailer and the instructions that came with it say to spray the seat with Silicone lube.
