I had a problem with my 45 amp Magnatek boiling my batteries so I got this http://www.progressivedyn.com/prod_details/rv_conv/rv_converter_pd9260c_2.html
I think they cost $200-$300 at Camping World but I got mine new, off of Ebay for about $150 delivered. So far, so good and I really haven't added water in a year or so.
It has the three stage charger.

Another approach is to buy the watering system available for batteries. I believe that Camping World carries it now. I think it's called Pro Fill. I bought mine at the Tampa Rv show last January. It costs about $50 if I remember correctly. You replace the battery caps with this device. You still have to add water but it's easy. Just put the fill hose into a container of distilled water & squeeze the bulb until it gets hard. When it is the batteries are full. I've been using mine since January 2008 & it's very easy. The batteries don't need a lot of water each time since I do check them once a month when fiver is connected to shore power.

I like the auto waterfill idea but if money was an object, then I would take the $50 and put it towards a new 3 stage converter

I have the "Battery Tender" which cost a lot less than others mentioned here. I paid 85 bucks here in Canada at an RV place so I suspect it is a lot less south of the border at a battery supply place. It charges the battery every 28 days, just check your water level.

A good 3 stage charger is 91 bucks (US). It has a tender mode. Unless I can buy a tener for about 25 bucks, I will just use the charger.
I have the TT, a motorcycle and 2 atvs, so I need to tend a few batteries.
The two trucks don't get driven unless we are going camping so i have to deal with those batteries as well. The other two cars are used daily so they aren't a problem.
One SUV, one car, two trucks, one motorcycle, two ATVs, one ATV trailer, one TT. The good news is that the ATV trailer does not have a battery.

Unless you have to have power on your RV, try this:
Battery switch
I hooked it up to the negative sided and turn it off or on as needed.

Hi All.
Well, Welcome to the world of some cheap junk Converter/Chargers. Your not the first by any means to ruin some battries do to junk Converter/Chagers. And you won't be the last either.
One of the best Mods we have ever made, was to udgrade to an Intell 9100 Series Converter/Charger, with the Charge Wizard, when they first came out. Now there is the Intell 9200 Series with the Charge Wizard. We also use the Battery Fill System on our Twin Group 27 Deep Cycle Battries. We also leave our 5er plugged in all the time when ever it isn't being used. I only check our water about every 4-5 months. Because our Converter/Charger with the Charge Wizard totally takes care of our battries. We never have to worry about much water loss, as there is basically no boiling at all with a good three stage Converter/Charger. When I do check the battries, I'm luckey if I can get one ounce of distilled water between both battries. The Battery Fill System is more than worth the cost. As I never have to take our battries out to check anything. Good Luck. Happy Camping. Dan & Jill
