Has anybody installed a Wave 3(or the smallest they offer) in an Outfitter Apex 8. I don't really want to mess with the portable legs. I would rather it was mounted and plumbed...but there isn't much room. The only place that has any surface is the bathroom door.
How do the Mr. Buddy heaters work? Would they do full heating duty in my camper? I don't mind the furnace when I am awake, but the noise bugs me when I am trying to sleep.
Either heater in question would be for winter camping in below freezing weather.

I have been using an Olympic Wave6 catalytic heater for six years, and love it.

My suggestion: Do not mount your Wave3 in the wall. Mounting the Wave3 on the portable legs with a six foot hose is the only way to go.

A catalytic heater works best if it is close to where you are in your RV. The heater warms the walls of your RV and radiates heat back at you.

Here is a story that I wrote about my Wave6:

Hi,

I have been chewed out because I talked bad about the Mr. Buddy heater, so all I will say is they are not certified for indoor use in Canada, because they produce to much carbon monoxide while running.

Also I would not want a high prssure propane clyinder right next to an open flame, especially in a poorly ventilated camper. A well ventilated garage with 10' ceilings and windows that are open is another story.

I have been using a Olympic Catalytic heater for some time, and I have to agree with Tiogas George that it would be best to use it with a leg kit and hose, then put it away when not in use.

Have you considered sitting it up on the stove, when the stove is not in use? Or set it on the open oven door? Not having seen your RV, it is difficult to see where it can be used - if at all.

6,000 Btu's is plenty to heat my 30' Bounder, and 3,000 would heat even the largest campers.

Fred.

I thought about using a tee off my stove with a LP connector and then use a 5-6 foot LP hose so I could place the heater where I needed it.

I also have a pop-up- my thought was to set the heater either on the floor or on top of the fridge. If you sat the heater on top of the fridge you could slightly open the flap behind the heater and crack the roof vent.

If you are a registered member of Outfitter's Owners Group forum, you can access the following write-up (with photos) of ktcribbs installation of a Wave 3 in his Apex 8 back in May. Here is the link: Wave 3 Install in an Apex 8

Well, first off trails, it's a post from someone else, and as such, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to directly share his write-up from another forum (other than to provide a link to it). I also don't think ktcribbs is a member of RV.net (although I don't know that for sure).

It's also not that unusual for an owners group type of forum to be limited to actual owners of a given brand of whatever, but that was a decision that Outfitter made, not me (I personally don't care either way). If you like, feel free to contact Bob or Brian Ward at Outfitter to see if they will allow a Hallmark owner to join in.

Now that's an idea - so who owns the company now- is it Bob or Brian- I cant remember

It seems that Brian's name is on the website as the owner- but I always hear on RV.net that Bob is the owner? /

On Edit

They might as well allow other camper owners to join- most of the play books in the industry- have already been shared

Steve would probably know better, but as far as I am aware, Bob (Brian's dad) is the original owner. They may be co-owners at this point, but I am just guessing.

Again trails, they could allow others to join in as far as I am concerned. But it is their company and their website, so it's really their decision one way or the other. However, the way I look at it, they at least have an Owners Group forum for Outfitter Owners, which I don't believe Hallmark has (or a number of other TC manufacturers for that matter).

You know, for being such a die-hard Hallmark supporter, you sure seem to have a lot of interest in Outfitter. Thinking of changing brands?
