We would like to take a leisurely trip from Flint Michigan to Missoula, Montana and back. within a 6 week time frame. I tow a 38 foot 5th wheel so the hairpin turns are out for me. I prefer non exciting roads if you know what I mean. Stopping places to enjoy the country are a plus. Full hookup sites are a plus. I don't really care for the High cost parks. an average of 25 a night seems reasonable.
maybe starting out in mid June.

Thanks

We prefer to avoid interstates part of the time and have taken US RT 2 to Glacier NP several times and enjoy it. I think it starts or goes through Duluth; however, it does run somewhat north of Missoula. It runs all the way across northern Minnesota and the Dakotas and Montana. Its straight, a good road and not slowed down much by towns. Just enough towns to get needed services. No steep climbs or exciting mountail roads. Eventually, it skirts the southern border of Glacier NP and of course you would want to stop and spend some time there. We work at the grocery store in West Glacier during summer. However, at that point, you are about 150 miles north of Missoula, which is a beautiful drive.

We've done the midwest to and through MT route a number of times using interstates and using Rt 2. The winner, hands down is Rt 2. Generally a better road than the interstates and far more interesting. You won't have any problems finding cgs on your route that will be as or more affordable than anything along the interstates. Fuel is no problem and your length won't be a problem either with fueling, camping or parking along along small town main street to do some shopping or to eat at a great non-chain restaurant.

And you can start your trip right by skipping I-75 and taking US 23 north instead.

Highway 2 to Kalispell MT then south to Missoula shlould fit you very nicely. Just one of our favorite roads (but only done in different pieces during different trips.

Actually U.S.2 starts in Maine and runs thru New Hampshire and Vermont picking up again on the eastern end of Michigan's upper peninsula
