Would like to spend a few days in the area in early November. Would like advice on recommended campgrounds - either SP or COE. Thanks.

The SP is on the east side of the lake and is really nice, new. It is Atlanta SP and it is at the dam 11 miles northwest of Atlanta
903-796-6476
Directions: To reach the park, which is 11 miles northwest of Atlanta, exit from US Highway 59 onto FM 96, and go west 9 miles to FM 1154, then north 2 miles to Park Road 42 entrance, (FM 1154 dead ends at the park).
Hope this helps. Have a great time, the weather should be nice then.

We've never stayed there, but good friends of ours really like Rocky Point COE.

I agree with Luv To Fish. Clear Springs is a very nice park, lots of shade, a pavillion, swimming beach, playgrounds, fish cleaning facilities, lots of trees. You will enjoy it. You may also want to look into Piney Point, near Rocky Point. We checked out both of the Points and thought Piney Point looked nicer.

Sooooooooooo, now that I know where to go. The big question is did anyone catch any fish? What time of year? And, do you want to share any secrets regarding what to use, (plugs, live bait, etc.)
Thanks

My DW and myself spent a week at Atlanta State Park last November and we really enjoyed it. The park is a underused jewel in the Texas State park chain. While there we also visited all 3 of the above mentioned COE parks and they were great also. When we was there we discussed the snowbirds that were arriving with the rangers there and he told us that around October-November snowbirds begin to arrive and that they stay 3-4 months at a time. Both me and my DW was impressed. Nice parks with plenty of shade, nice lake to fish and plenty of neat things to do in Atlanta or nearby Texarkana. Wherever you decide to stay you can't go wrong. We hope to go back there soon. Enjoy and have fun.
