About 1 year ago we had someone get into our 5er and steal the DVD. Our 5er was sitting in our driveway and we were home at the time of the theft. We were dumb enough to go into the unit that day and had not locked the door when we finished.

We found a infrared driveway alarm that is wireless and has a range of 400 ft. I mounted the sensor on the under edge of the kitchen counter facing the entry door. The receiver is in the house. It works great and have not had any problems, of course we are also making sure that we lock the door when not around.

These driveway alarms can be found at Harbor Freight for approx. $20.

We have 1 of those driveway alarms too but that's not what he's asking about. But for the record, mine was over $100...but they work great - when you're home to hear the alarm bell ring when someone drives up in the drive.

There is a device called the RV Nanny that will function as an intrusion alarm and also monitor the temp (great if you leave pets in the RV on hot days while gone)....Search RV Nanny on google....it's pricey and requires basic cell phone service, but seems the ultimate in this type of device.

Hi All.

Yep, we have two alarms inside of our 5er. Both are battery operated. The main one for the 5er, will sound off instantely as soon as anyone enters the RV, at 105 DBA. The second alarm, is also inside of the 5er, but it is directed to the Rear Platform Mounted Tool Box, on our rear bumper, where we have our Twin Honda EU2000i's mounted. That one is 135 DBA. Both alarms, either together, or one by itself, can be hard from quite a few site aways. We also have a Covered RV Port at home, that is protected by ADT, 24/7, 365 days of the year, along with our house also. Out of habit, we keep everything locked all the time anyways. We did recieve discounts for our Homeowners insurance, and our insurance on our 5er also, for having alarms installed in both. Works for us. Happy Camping, Dan & Jill
