Hello, intrepid travelers.
Some time ago I posted a piece on moving to Super Singles on the rear axle of my TC.
My shameless moniker was, "Redneck Duallies". I mention in the piece that there was only one (1) tire that fit all my requirements. 32.8" tall, very wide, aggressive tread, high capacity....
At the time the Nitto Mud Grappler, size 33x14.50R16, 3415 capacity, 14.57" wide tread was alone.
What has it been? Two years?
There is a new player in mix.
It's the

By the looks of the tread, it's an All Terrain (AT), which should be a lot quieter than the Nitto's. (anything should be quieter) I'm going to try to see one in the flesh and report back.
There are other options with various 17", 18" wheel sizes which include diameters of 33.9", 35.7", 37.8", 39.8" (for you muy macho big tire guys). The problem is finding a wheel to fit the tires. Go ahead, just try to find an 18" wheel with a 12 or 14" width.
What does this mean to you? If you are looking to increase the footprint and loading of your rear axle, by a lot, nearly as much as two regular dualie tires, and you are running 285x75R16's or the 17-18" equivalent, now, you can simply get two of these tires and two Mickey Thompson 12"wide by 16" aluminum rims and you're in business. It doesn't matter if your fronts are 17" or 18" wheels, only the diameters (and by inference, loaded radius) need to be the same. It doesn't matter if your are currently running singles or duals.
The big change here is not just the potential for noise reduction (kind of like a Dolby tire), since they are so similar to the one's I'm running now, but the chance to have a good boost in load capacity; 3750 lbs. That's a 7500 lb. rear axle rating.
Now the M.T. wheels only have a 3600 lb rating, but it's close: 7200 lb. on per axle. Stockton wheel will make me a very high capacity wheel, and they're close.
This could be the fix/tweeking I was looking for to make the super single project complete and uncompromised.

Dang, I wish they were a little higher in rating, and I could seriously consider them.
I run 8K without towing and about 8.5K when towing right now.

How are they on price?
15.5" wide, now that is very cool! 
I'm running 285/75-16E BFG AT KO's (3750 lbs @ 80 psi) now on Stockton 16x8 welded steel wheels (4000 lbs @ 100 psi rated). The BFG's are 11.25" wide and 33" tall. Cost was about $200 per tire, if I remember right.
The BFG AT's are very quiet and ride nice, wear even, have good traction in everything except clay mud. Too bad they don't offer them in the MT open-lug mud tread. With the Lock-Right differential in the rear, 4.56 gears and so much weight on the back axle, with these tires I go most places in 2wd.

You are running 8K without towing and about 8.5K when towing right now.? This is with the Visteon 10.5" axle (aka: Sterling)?
On a one ton, the ratings are variously:
6200 lbs. SRW
7750 lbs. Dual
8200 lbs. Dual, rare, depending on tires, diesel or gas, 2bye or 4bye, other options.
Yep, you are close to the edge.
Your 'G' rated's are saving you.

Yeah, I like the BFG, AT's. Great all round off-road and snow tire. My only problem was I couldn't drive enough miles soon enough to wear them out before the sidewalls became dangerously cracked. I'm not sure what was up with that, but I had to retire 8 of 'em before they wore out. Had blow out's on a couple, replaced on waranty.
I still have a stack of them in the back 40 with lots of tread.

One spare. The OEM size. It's the only one that will fit between the frame rails on the truck anyway. If SRW, put it on. If orig. DRW, put it on reversed, on the rear axle to get you to town. It need to be close to the same diameter in 2 WD.
Actually, this would be a great rear axle tire setup for your 5-er, unless your pin weight is more that 7500 lbs.

I've got the 10.25" sterling. The door sticker says 7.5K. The springs are upgraded from stock.
The tires are 2470lbs each (E rated) in dual. So that's good for 9850lbs.

The Visteon 10.5 is good for 9750 SRW or DRW.
Did Matthew's Ford come with a Visteon or Dana rear?
