I read where you need a little bit of a smaller pad than your tent floor. I cant find a tarp that size. Tent is 10x10 so need a 9x9. What do ya'll use? Just a tarp and fold it to fit?

I use a tarp larger than my tent floor. At the beginning I just folded it over, then later cut to fit and sewn edge. Get a 12 X 10 and then you'll have a place to keep your shoes clean and dry!

I just get a tarp that's larger than my tent, lay it out, set the tent up on top of it and trace around the tent with a marker. Then I remove the tent, put another line "inside" the original marker line and cut to that size.
I will generally also attach webbing and grommets to the footprint so that the tent poles will fit into them and keep things from sliding around. It's sort of a pain in the butt, but very nice once you're finished.

We just cut a big piece of heavy plastic to size. Note it needs to be smaller than tent floor or it will trap rain between it and tent floor.

Some places, like REI, sell "footprints" that are designed for a specific tent. Have you tried that?

I fold it under to fit. I put the folded under part at the door end. I figure it provides extra protection being double. We found out why you don't let it extended one time when it rained. It funneled the water right under the tent. Having it 6 inches smaller the whole way around, keeps the floor of the tent nice and dry.

When we go camping, DW and I sleep in the TT, but DD(29) and DS(26) sleep in their own backpacking tents. Allegedly I snore.
They both have become fond of taking my tacky green rugs from CW and putting them under their tents. They do a good job of covering up rocks and sticks.
Not a good idea if you expect rain, but we don't get much rain in California between May and Halloween.

I just leave the tarp the orginal size and fold it under once the tent is up on my 10 x 10 tent. For my back packing tent I purchased some footprint plastic at Academy Sports and cut it to size. That plastic is pretty thick and durable and can be purchased in a number of different sizes so you can get one close to the size of the then and adjust / cut from there.

I did look at amazon for a correct size ground cover but they didn't get good reviews.
Thanks so much for the help.

I use a footprint that was made specifically for my tent.
Here is a medium sized Eureka Floor Saver:

Just remember to always clear the tent's area of rocks, sticks, and anything that you think can puncture the floor.
