Hello,
When towing our TT, we usually run the refrigerator. With our old gas powered truck, I always pulled off to the side and turned off the refrigerator prior to fueling so that there would be no lit pilots or burners near the gas pumps. Is it necessary to do this when towing and fueling a diesel, since the diesel fumes are not as volitile as gasoline vapor? Thanks in advance for your advice.

With a gas engine, your Flash point or Fire point can be as low as -40 F. With Diesel it is like 143 F. And Bio Diesel is as high as 266 F.
Thus you run a higher risk of fire when fueling a gas rig than the you do with a Diesel rigs. I have a diesel truck, and never shut mine off.

When I remember I will stop before I get to the pump and shut mine off.

The location of the refer. might be important too. My refer. is on the opposite side from the fuel filler and at least 15 feet back from the truck. I can't imagine fumes of any kind being flammable at that distance/concentration even on a gas rig.

If the island ONLY has diesel fuel you are probably okay. But if there are still gas pumps what about fumes from the other people fueling or the gas that was spilled by the previous customer?
I just avoid the whole hassle by not towing with it on, I have towed all day with the refrigerator off and the ice cream is still solid.

If there are enough fumes to cause the frig to start a fire, then the simple act of starting your engine after refuel will blow the place sky high since the fumes are heavier than air and will be close to the ground. You guys kill me, stop it.

my fridge is on the passenger side about mid-way down, so I dont turn mine off. Do what makes you feel comfortable....usually if you have to ask, you aren't comfortable.

Ha ha ha ha ha.............You beat me to it GP.
Has anybody ever bench tested a starter? Sparks everywhere!!!
Half the plug wires I have seen look like a light show at night!!!!
You have a trillion times more of a chance getting hit by lightning while filling up at a gas station.
