We have a friend of ours that is going to borrow our tent in 2 weeks and since we got a 5th wheel we haven't used it (2 years ago). We'd like to waterproof it for him so they don't have any problems, but I don't know what brand is the best. Also, after researching on this site trying to find the answer, I read something about "taping the seams"? What does that entail?
And when I spray it, do I spray the inside and the outside, or just the outside?
Thank you everyone! This site is the best!

Not sure these are the best, but they work.
For the exterior of the tent, spray with Kiwi Heavy Duty Water Repellent according to instructions.
For the interior, coat the seams with Seam Grip according to instructions. Seam Grip can also be applied on the exterior where the tent stake-out points are located.
Kiwi can be purchased at Wal Mart. I bought Seam Grip at Bass Pro but I'm sure it can be found elsewhere.
Good luck.

Does it make any difference which material(s) the tent is made of? We had an old canvas tent, but most now are of some kind of nylon or synthetic material.

Granger's makes a number of awesome products include a tent waterproofer:
Granger's Tent UV Waterproofing Spray
Not many retailers in the US carry it in stock but Google it and see if you can find one that does. I have it and it is great.

If you have a synthetic tent with a fly, I would only worry about the stitched seams of the tent. Seam Seal or a similar product works well to prevent moisture from wicking in through the stitching of the tent floor. You only need to worry about the bottom 6-12" depending on the tent design.

Hi,
Thanks for info on tent waterproofing. Our had to endure 8" of and it hasn't been the same since. I took advice and found the Kiwi product for $2.99 by using a free Web tool.
