I would like some ideas on how you guys deal with the heat. We sold our pop-up with AC and are just going to tent camp. The temp here in NE Texas is pushing 100 and the heat indexes are over 100. Do fans keep you comfortable? Do any of you carry air conditioners with you? If so, how do you set them up? Would the AC cool a tent? We have a Coleman Weathermaster 10 person, 3 room tent. We are a family of 7, my wife, myself, and 5 kids. I"m just looking for ideas. The last time we tent camped, it was in the spring time....warm days in the 70's and cool nights in the 50's. Thanks.

Don't visit Fl now, it's scorching hot! Last year I saw someone folks over near Daytona in a tent and they used a huge tarp and duct tape. They had put their AC on a milk crate and had it vented right into the tent. The tent looked sort of like a balloon. Comical but it looked like it worked for them.

My brother recently got the biggest tent I ever saw, 18 x 24! As a gag he set it up next to our RV a few weeks ago and had full hookups like we did. One of the rooms set up with a portapotty. Another room had 4 lounge chairs and a 54" lcd, the 2 bedrooms had portable air beds, a popcorn machine, dining table and refrigerator, beer dispenser and the Piece de resistance was an air conditioner. Suprised me by keeping the inside frosty cool on a very warm day! Here is the type he got! Make sure if you get one it's a Dual Hose system! Very efficient, and you can use it when you are not camping in your home as well!

This is our 7th new Jayco in 30 years! Loved 'em all!

I carry several battery operated fans when I tent camp (and a couple of the little personal fans that you put water in and "mist" yourself)...I don't tolerate heat....so I try to avoid hot weather tent camping as much as possible...but I do know that many campgrounds have tent areas with electrical outlets...so you could carry a big fan or a small air conditioning unit (110) and a heavy extension cord.
Personally speaking....there's nothing more miserable than little kids that are "too hot"....you may just have to wait until fall....I would rather snuggle down in a good sleeping bag....then trying the wet cool towel thing over my body and trying to sleep!

I try to do all my tent camping in early spring, late fall or winter. I can't stand being all hot and sticky. But, sometimes there's nothing you can do about it. I'll be on a canoe camping trip in a couple of weeks, so I'm taking my Coleman Cool Zephyr fan/light combo. It really does do a good job.

But if I were tenting in an area with electricity, I'd just plug in fans and probably get a small a/c unit.

With 7 in your gang I can see why you gave up the PUP. Only 5 of us in my family and it was enough to get me to move to an HTT! You've got a nice sized tent, though. I've seen lots of people using the small window unit style a/c in their tents. Seems to work out for them.

Good luck and have fun!

I usually pop for the extra $ and get electric so I can set up a fan, this works okay until the humidity hits 85%+.

Put a 'sun fly' over the tent. My dad made one out of a painters white drop cloth to errect over the 9' X 12' wall tent we had. Keep a gap between the tent roof and the fly and it will make a huge difference.

I'm glad you asked this. I was wondering the same. We live in Louisiana. And are talking about camping for the 4th of July

I was also wondering about when people use a/c for their tent. We just got a new copper canyon 10 and I don't want to be putting duct tape on it and I don't want to cut the mesh on the windows. I guess we could put it in the door? But, just don't see how to close the door around the unit. I wish they made tents with a spot for an a/c. LOL

OK. Thanks. My next question is where would you put the AC unit. It blows cool air out the front and warm air out of the back. Would you sit it in the door and just zipper down to it. It would be nice to sit it in the window and let the hot air blow out of the screen, but then you have the water to think about. Any suggestions? Thanks
