We are going to be taking our first long camping trip in our Class C Motorhome in late August. We will be leaving the Salt Lake area heading North with final destination of Glacier National Park. No definite plans in mind. I would appreciate any advice you can provide both in great places to camp, visit and eat. Thinking of taking a different route home than on the way just to see more areas. Our Class C is a 24' and so, pretty easy to get in and out of smaller areas. Do you know how it would be to the Road to the Sun? Our motorhome is probably a little longer than it is actually rated but only by a foot.
This forum is awesome. I have learned so much from all you "seasoned" RVer's!
Thanks for all the advice!

I believe there's a tunnel. You might want to check. It maybe big enough. I used my toad when I went there. It was August. Weather was great. We stayed in Hungry Horse. Couple of local eating and drinking establishments. Loved the area.

Even if you could, you DO NOT want to take the MH up the Going to the Sun road. I was more than happy to take the free shuttles and leave the dually in the CG.
We stayed at the Nugget CG in St. Regis just off of I-90 before heading up to Glacier. It was a very nice CG and really enjoyed our brief stay.
Oh.. and if you have never visited Craters of the Moon national monument, it is well worth it.

the park won't let you go across the "sun" highway, but they have shuttle bus rides to do that.
for campgrounds: Johnson's of St. Mary has a great view of the mountain
inside the park is St. Mary's campground, very nice
these are on the east side of the park.

The size restrictions are 21 feet long and 8 feet wide. The road is opening up this weekend according to the local paper.

Looks like we will take the shuttle. I didn't know they had one but that is nice. We are taking my sister who has never been camping and so, I am very excited and want to show her how beautiful camping can be. She has lived most of her life in Las Vegas and Mississippi. She is 70 but is very active. Planning on some hiking too. What about the Salmon River area for camping in Idaho going or coming back???

Don't miss Craters of the Moon in Idaho. And if you don't need hookups, the campground there is perfect for your size rig. Otherwise, there are private campgrounds nearby. Have fun!

I have a great suggestion along the Salmon between Challis and Salmon, Idaho.
Royal Gorge Resort is sited right on the River, is very small and compact, has good shade in the afternoon, easy hikes, and a natural hot spring on premise.
Very pleasant folks run the place. They have a website, might want to take a look.
If you go to Craters of the Moon, take a look at the campground in Mackay, Idaho, close to the fairgrounds there--really a "down home" laid back kind of place and withing walking distance of downtown and hiking around town will give you a good idea of small town western living.
