I have to ask the obvious question: if you've got plenty of tow capacity but limited cargo capacity, why don't you just carry some of the "stuff" in the trailer?

All sarcasm aside, I urge my fellow 150/1500 owners to add up their passengers, fuel, WD/AS hitch and bars, tongue weight and what ever else you carry. You'd be suprised. I was.

Max Payload - 1448lbs
Me and DW - 340lbs
Full Fuel - 160 lbs

Feel free to post your findings

I already know i am over...no need to add anything up again. I also know a lot of 3/4 and 1 ton owners that are over, i am not saying it is right.

I was in the same boat 3 yrs ago... 1500 was good with trailer - but a little over (~300-400lbs)GVWR but under GAWR with the bed full of firewood/ect...
I used it as an 'excuse' to get a 2500 diesel - That truck was sweet...
BUT - I'm back to a 1500 again - still a little heavy but legal (we have weight sticker classes in PA) & does a great job!

I was surprised to find out the published curb weight of my '05 Suburban 2500 was almost 1000lbs less than the actual CAT scaled weight! (5796 vs 6760 scaled)
That'll put a crimp in your packing style!

We also tow with a 1/2 ton SUV without any issues and are under our alloted cargo capacity even with an 850# tongue weight.
But....we don't bring tons of stuff like the OP does (that list is just dizzying to me!) It's just us (2 adults, 2 kids) and small ice chest and generator go into the truck.
Same here just 3 adults, 2 kids, and 4 bicycles + trailer with a loaded hitch weight between 800-850 lbs, works well for me.

This may be a stupid question but why does everyone use the tongue weight when not all the TT tongue weight will be on the TV with WD. My tongue weight is just under 800lbs but with WD there is only about 350 - 400lbs on the truck. This is weighed. So for my Tundra with a cargo capacity of 1290 lbs it leaves me 890 lbs for DW,DS & DD plus bikes and firewood. If I used the 800 lbs hitch weight then it would only leave me 490 lbs.
Now I know the trailer moves up and down so more or less hitch weight while driving but when you put a load in the bed of the truck weight shifts from axle to axle going over bumps too.
So the way I am looking at this is that my truck has a 7200 lb GVWR and when I weigh the truck with the trailer with WD, all passengers, bikes and firewood as long as I am under the 7200 lbs I am fine. I don't think I need to add the extra 400 lbs that the WD moves to the trailer.
From what I see with people using TT tongue weight instead of weighing the combo people think they are over weight and might not be!??? With a 5ver I can see why you have to use the tongue weight as it all sits in the bed but not with a TT when you use weight distribution which transfers weight back to the trailer!

I may be wrong but I thought WD distributed some weight towards the front of the TV and off the rear axle.

WD transfers weight to both the trailer and the front axle of the truck. In my thoughts, if you are that close to being overweight without the WDH activated, it's not worth trying to adjust the WDH to get more weight on the trailer. The weight has to go somewhere, and until you actually weigh the setup with the WDH activated and not to find out where the weight actually is, you'll not know the specifics. Odds will have it, the majority of the weight lost from the ball will now be on the front axle. And the weight transferred to the trailer, well, is it now pushing it's limit?
