We, like most other RVr's, can't resist looking at new units. We have found a "new" 2008 Dutch Star that according to the dealer was moved from a failed dealership to his lot by the floor plan company. It has the fridge behind the passenger seat and a mid-coach living area that we like a lot. The selling dealer says he has no price on the unit but rather has been asked submit offers to the lender. Kind of strange but he says he has a lot of coaches that are being sold that way. MSRP shows to be $317K and some change. The coach has 1700 miles on it. it is a 40' with a 400 Cummins. They dealer suggested we low ball at $155K and let them come back. But after doing some online checking I'm thinking this may not be a low ball number but actually what they are selling for.

I never like to price someone else's stuff. In this case the "someone else" would be the dealer. I agree, offer him something really low - you never know! If he gets offended, tell him that you are a buyer and NOT a shopper and for him to be serious. Lots of times you get the best deal when you just walk away! IMHO

If you are being serious, then I wouldn't offer an insulting figure, but would offer something lower than the 155K, say 130-140K. The lender would be more receptive, than a 100K offer on a coach they probably into, to the tune of about 200K.

If you are serious buyer, paying cash (no financing) and have no trade-ins, your lowball may work.

look it up on nadaguides.com as a used unit. It probably has been titled to someone and is almost two years old. It has been driven more that a new unit. It looks like about 207K low retail, the 155 is probably a good wholesale price but a bit lower may be O'k. The 155 may be as low as they will go. I agree with 130 to 140 for a starter.

155K is about 49% off MSRP. Like others have stated, it's two years old and a used coach no matter what the dealer said or who holds the title. I'm with the others here, I'd offer 130K/140K to start but it kinda depends on your financial position, meaning if you have cash, a trade or not and the financial condition of the selling dealer. Times are tough and no one knows this better than the dealer.

Everyone keeps referring to the dealer. The dealer has nothing to do with this coach, except to display it and take any offers to the owner, a financial institution. This coach is on consignment from that financial institution.

Lowball it and walk away on his counter. If he wants to sell, he will call you.

When you come right down to it, it is still a Dutch Star, and there are many people who really like them. If you are actually in love with the unit, and I know this floorplan, and it is really nice, and you are happy with the way they build units, you are really ready to buy. Then, offer about 125. Let them come back with a counter, I don't think the lender will accept 125. Know what you are willing to actually pay. Stick to your guns.
BUT be ready to buy. Trying to find the lowest out of curiosity is not fair to the dealer or the lender.
