Hey everyone,
Newb here. Looking forward to help.
My wife and I have been shopping for a TH with plenty of living space separated from the garage, but the garage needs to be at least 16 feet for a Mazda Miata. The Miata weight 2100 lbs. Also will have another 1000 lbs in tools and equipment.
I've searched most of the TH manufacturers websites but having trouble finding the information I need.
Havnt bought the tow vehicle but will be ordering a Ram 3500 mega cab short box dually with 6.7 cummins diesel. We're thinking the TH will need to be around 40 feet for the living quarters and garage we're looking for. Again, we would like the garage to be completely seperate from the living area.
All the help / suggestions you can provide
Thanks in advance.

We were at the RV show in Wichita earlier in the year and saw a Wolf Pack TH, I have a miata also, so I remarked that the garage was large enough to hold it while the living area was still roomy. You might take a look at them.

Thanks for the info. I'll check them out.
Do you remember the length of the garage ? I'm also concerned about location, ease and safety for tie downs if anyone has any input on that.
Basically a TH that is solid for hauling a small car like the Miata, seperated garage and plenty of living space.
Thanks

Be sure you ask about the weight limits of the garage and ramp. I wouldn't take the information from the dealer, unless they have it in writing from the factory. Many cargo areas are limited to 2000-2500 lbs.
IMHO for a 16' garage you'll need more then a 3500, more like and MDT. You're talking a 40'+ rig.

I don't know what make and model is out there that will fit my needs, so asking them weight limits is the last thing on the list right now.
Also, I've read other posts that mentioned cargo areas with 5000 lbs capacity.
I've also been told a 1 ton 6.7 cummins diesel dually will do 18,000 pounds or so easily.
Regardless, per my initial post, I'm inquiring here for help from the gurus and those that been there done that.
Thats why I'm here.
Any facts, suggestions and/or help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

This may help with my questions:
Wanting a TH to get my Miata to the race track instead of a race trailer with living quarters.
Will be towing with a 09 Ram 1 ton 6.7 cummins dually mega cab with short box.
The Miata is 13 foot bumper to bumper and weights 2100 lbs. Approximately another 1500 lbs of tools, tires, spares and stuff.
I've done major scoping of almost all the TH manufacturers websites and not finding what I need.
TH wants / needs.
1. Goose neck.
2. 3 slides
3. At least a 16 foot garage.
4. Wall and door between garage and living area.
5. Garage capacity of at least 4000 lbs.
6. Ramp angle to get the Miata in and out of the garage without bottoming out.
7. Secure and safe tie downs.
8. Around 40 feet to allow for the garage and ample living area.
9. Safely and comfortably towable with the vehicle specs given above.
Looking forward to help from all the gurus here and those of you that have been there done that.
Thanks in advance.

Bear in mind I am going off my sticker with the ratings and have not weighed mine but these are them. 9150 uvw and 15000 gvw . givves me approx 5000 # capacity.I think the sticker says around 5500 but can't remember and the trailer is not here tonite . I will look tommorrow nite . I have an open unit which has no garage but utilizes right up to the kitchen. I am not sure about overall cargo space lenght as I just know I can fit my quad up into the kitchen , 2 dirtbikes and my goldwing if I pacck carefully . Check on forest rivers website for more in depth details as I don't have my specs in front of me . I do have the heavier axles under mine and they are triple which is where I do beleive I get the higher cargo capacity from.

Been here, doin' this!! I believe you will be hard pressed to find what you are looking for without haveing someone build it for you. I.E. I don't believe that you will find 16' of cargo space in a 40' TH with a wall and still have room for any slides except in the bedroom. My 40' has 19' of cargo space but that is from the ramp to the counter where the oven is.
If I am wrong, and for your sake I hope that I am, (that way, maybe you will find what you are looking for)and you find this toyhauler from heaven, it will most likely be too heavy for a 1-ton to be comfortable. My Nu-Wa is as heavy when loaded as I would like to be, anything more and I will go to a small Freightliner or something. I haul a VW Bug and related items for car shows. I don't carry spare parts or very many tools. So you can see, my car weighs maybe 2000 at the tops and I have no where near the weight in tools, tires and parts that you will. Keep in mind that not only does the truck have to stand up to all the stuff you put back there, so does the floor and ramp. Some folks experience sag in the floor panels by the outside walls because of overloading the floor. Just because the wheels, tires and main frame take the abuse, it does not mean that the floor panels and frame parts that go out the walls will. Mine has not and needs to be reinforced as it is sagging some.
There are trailer mfgrs. out there that will be glad to build what you are looking for, but I doubt if you will find what you are looking for on a dealer lot. I am trying as hard as I can, but can not remember the names of the companys for custom race setups, when I do I will post back here.
Sorry for the long drawn out reply, but you asked for "been here...." and I am. I didn't want to see someone else make the same mistakes I have or have their dreams dashed after dreaming for years and then finding out, "no we can't do that for you, sorry". Anyway, good luck in your search and let us know what you come up with. Check out my profile for a pic of the car and truck and trailer. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

dahammer & hotvdub,
Thanks a bunch to both of you. Like I said, I've researched a ton with no luck so was somewhat prepared for this, but thought I'd give it a shot.
Don't get me wrong, we can ge a pretty sweet race trailer with living quarters and it sounds like thats just the way to go for durability, weight, safety, etc. Maybe thats why you never see any TH's in the paddock !
Anyway.. No need for anyone else to burn time with replies. That'll do it.
Will be goin with a gooseneck race trailer with living quarters.
My wife and I actually kinda came to that conclusion this morning.
It's the way to go.
Thanks, good luck to everyone and take care.
