If I had looked at a map closer, I think I would have taken Hwy 201, which is the first exit on the north 15 past the 80. Then straight west to rejoin I-80, not freeway the whole way, but on the map it looks like a shorter, faster route.
This is a north/south diversion....OP coming from the East. Colorado Cruiser has the right idea.
SLC worse than Denver? Matter of perception, I guess. 30 years in the SLC area and I've hardly ever slowed down when going thru SLC on I-15 or I-80. Unless there is an accident, of course. Not near as bad as Portland and Seattle.

Not sure what you mean. HWY 201 goes from I-15 headed west, to join up with I-80 about 15 miles to the west.
He would come in from either the I-15 south (from I-70 E), or if he left Denver on I-25 N, then he would be on I-80 west.

Ah, I see your point. However, we have the OP leaving I-80 at Henefer and picking up I-84, therefore coming no where near SLC, therefore the bypass. We know 201 as 21st south locally, a throwback from before its construction, and it is usually much more congested than 215 or 15.....would not recommend. If OP were to come up I-70 (not recommended), straight up I-15 and through SLC would be my recommendation.
In any case, I-80 west out of SLC not that good a choice when headed for the OP's destination.

Oops - I need to make a correction to the directions I gave above!!
Going straight on the Tennant Way route from I-5 exit 36
turn left at the ARCO am/pm station across from the lake {NOT an Exxon station} - on Oregon Way heading south over the Longview/Rainier bridge!!!
the ARCO station will be on your right and there is a Chevron station on the lefthand side. AND a Burger King.
The tricky part is that the signs advising you to turn Left to Oregon 30 are confusing!! And if you inadvertently do turn left BEFORE you come to Oregon Way ... not to worry ... simply go to the end of that street, turn right, and then turn LEFT at the STOPLIGHT intersection which is Oregon Way {which may actually turn out to be the better approach?!}
... BECAUSE the lane to turn Left on Oregon Way {from Tennant Way} doesn't start until you are in that block HOWEVER some impatient motorists hop over into the left turn lane in the block before AND go right on thru that intersection ... so start signaling asap, take another look before you pull over AND don't dawdle because again a few idiots will try to jump right over and then won't let you in
Happy Camping to All
