I have a 40' Class A with a tow. The route most direct is Highway 12 from Yakima to I-5 and then to Olympia. My other option is to traverse I-82 and then drop south on I-5. Is this road OK for my rig and tow? If this is "ify" then I'll go the other way.
Second, any recommendations for rv parks along the Highway 12 route should be choose to go that way?
As always, this site has come up with good, accurate posts. Thanks in advance.

Hwy 12 is a good road all the way. Be very careful of your speeds as it is very heavily patrolled.
There are several of state and NF camp ground on the road. But if you are looking for private? then I think you are really out of luck. The drive should not be much over 4 hours, so a straight drive is not out of the question.

I-82, I-90, I-5 are all 4 lane freeways. Hwy 12 is a 2 lane hwy. If you are looking for fastest take I-82, if looking at the country take Hwy-12.

Google maps gives a slight edge time wise to 89/90/18/5, and a slight distance edge to 12/5. If I did I90, I'd go through Puyallup rather than Tacoma, just being careful about highway number changes. Rush hour traffic could hurt your travel times between Auburn and Olympia.
Overall, I think 12 would be more pleasant, unless you have strong preference for 4 lanes in the mountains.

I would recommend 12. Curious - how are you getting to Yakima? from where?

If you are comfortable with mountain curves and 2 lanes take 12, otherwise I90 to WA18, WA167, WA512 to I5.

There are two very nice Tacoma Power RV parks on Riffe Lake and a State Park (Ike Kinzwa), a County Park and a private park on Mayfield Lake. Both lakes are on the west side of the pass and a few miles east of I-5. A lot of the sites at Ike Kinzwa may be a little small for your rig however.
As far as the Tacoma Power Parks, one is at the east end of the lake and named Taidnapam the other is at Mossyrock on the west end.
I think you can search these out on Washington State Parks internet site.
Oh, by the way they are along Hwy 12 which is very RV friendly and senic.
Have a good trip
