I've used my 50 amp adapter twice when the 30 amp didn't work. I think the 30 amp outlets get alot more use.
I've got an extension cord that I've never used. (Got it like new at a second-hand store for $10.)

We never have needed an adapter and used our extension cord once - at the same place where they conveniently sold them for a great deal more than $10. We had to have it there, so we bought it. Sad but true.

I've used my 50 amp extension cord a couple of times, once due to site layout, once due to convenience.

Been in one place where they only had 50amp
Been in several places where the 30 amp plug was in bad shape so I used the 50 amp plug (and my adaptor).
I have (2) 25 foot 30 amp cords. Use them both quite often.
I stay in state parks or campgrounds only about 40% of the time.

We carry the attached 30' 50 amp cord, have an add'l 30' 50 amp cord, then have two 30' 30 amp cords and a 100' 20 amp cord. Two weekends ago even all that wasn't enough! Would have needed at least 300' to get to the plugins. Will never go to that show again!

Also am I likely to need a 50 to 30 adapter?
Assume by the question your rig is a 30 amp service. 30 amp is in the middle of the available services.
Since your rig is 30 amp an 30 amp extension could be a benefit for those just out of reach places.
Personally I always had a 30 amp female -> 20/15 amp male for the older more primitive campgrounds.
I would also have a 50 amp male to 30 amp female for those parks offering 50 amp service to keep heat to a minimum at the pedestal.

Yes on adapter. Yes we have stayed at sites where choice was 50 amp or 20 amp. Also stayed at many sites where 30 amp socket was burned or broken to we used the adapter and the 50 amp socket.
We carry TWO spare 30 amp extension cords. Rarely use both, but fairly often use one (plus the normal attached cord).
Note the more rural the CG, the more likely you are to need the extension.

I carry a 50/30 adapter and a 50' extension. So far I have only needed them at home. $1 per foot or less for the extension should be the target.

They are both good to have. As someone else sad they don't take up much storage space. If you wait till you actually know you need the cord or adapter it maybe too late to actually purchase one. Prior planning prevents poor performance or something like that!

Don't stay at KOAs very often, but the last one was .. rude ... about my power cord only 20' and wasn't the 35' they consider normal. Luckily we moved to a much better spot.
If you go to a North Dakota Park plan on at least 50' to the post. Often a power pedestal is shared between 2 sites.
I now carry a 12 ga extension cord. The camper has the standard 30 amp plug, but we can easily survive on a 15 amp hook up.
Adapters? I carry 3 plus my heavy extension cord.
