cruising spud wrote: Would the motor home be big enough? In my opinion-no. Just the logistics of moving around in the morning, not getting in each others way, etc, would be hard. Plus, the kids grow up and get bigger very quickly. With the economy the way it is right now, I would try and make sure that the rv I bought today would work for my family for many years down the road. My opinion.
That's solid advice, imo. We have three kids: 16, 9, 6. The oldest occasionally goes with us so there is usually only four. We have a 26' Gulfstream Class C. I was a little apprehensive as it was actually closer to 28.5' long, regarding trailering and carrying/launching a boat. It is much easier to maneuver and park than I imagined. Lots of storage and it has swivel chairs opposite the dinette; kids are outta the way if the wife has to cook or something.

I think it all depends on you and your family. We spent a month traveling to Alaska and back. We had a 19' travel trailer and three kids (18, 14, & 14 at the time). We survived just fine.

I would buy up to a 27'-29'. The 23' would work this year, but those kids will get bigger and having them all crammed in the cab over won't work out in the next 1-2 years....
I have a 28' class c no slides, DW, and boys 10,8,5. I built quad bunks in the back. By everyone having their own space, I see their enjoyment much higher.
My MH has a few small storage bays and I have more gear. I use the cab over area when traveling, I also bought a roof top cargo carrier to hold some stuff, and then I built a 8'x1' "deck" on the back of my MH. It sits ontop of the frame rails and the square tube bumper. I can put a cooler, cargo box, tie down lawn chairs, etc out there. I made the deck out of 2x6, some eye hooks for tie downs and then clamped it to the frame rails with long carriage bolts and metal strapping. I'm not putting a lot of weight back there, it is just simple storage. I use my receiver hitch for bike rack.

Would not be enough room for my family of 4 plus dog.
Our kids were 8 and 11 when we bought 2 years ago. Now our son is 13 and about 5'8" tall, dd is about 5'1" and growing.
We bought a 27' class C with rear twin beds where the kids sleep (solid door gives privacy for dressing), a double overcab bunk where dh and I sleep, we only have to convert the dinette if we have a guest. Privacy becomes an issue as kids get bigger.
We mostly camp in PP without hook-ups.
Our longest trip was last Summer 3 weeks on the road, staying in PP's full service RV parks and National Parks. I was very happy to have the room.
We do not have a slide, spend most our days outside unless it is raining and really enjoy not having to convert the beds. We generally eat our meals outside too.
Our next trip we will have a guest and will be converting the dinnette
each day.

Without knowing you and your camping/RVing habits, I would say "NO WAY." We went on a 36-day cross country trip in our 30', with opposing slides and it worked fine for the four of us.....BUT, it seemed crowded in the evening when the beds came out, etc. I would not have wanted anything smaller that is for sure!!!
This may "work" for you for awhile, but I really think that you will get tired of the lack of room quickly....especially if you plan on being in it for a few months at a time. JMHO

Only you know the answer to this question. You'll get plenty of people here who will tell you that unit is too small (several already have). And for them, it would be.
Some of those same people would tell me that my 29 foot unit with no slides is too small for my family of 6 + our medium-sized dog, but it isn't too small for us.
If you haven't already, I strongly suggest spending some time in it with all of you. Take it for a drive with all of you in it. Think about what the arrangements will be like if you are stuck inside on a rainy day. We spent a lot of time in different units at different dealers trying to get a sense of what would work for us and it was time well spent because we knew instantly when we eventually found the right one.
