I've got a '97 c 3500 CC dually 7.4 litre, (454).
The A/C compressor was replaced only 2 years ago.

I turn on the A/C switch now, and the compressor clutch engages for 2 or 3 seconds, then dis-engages for 6 or 7 seconds, then engages for 2 or 3 seconds again.

this cycle keeps repeteing itself for as long as the A/C switch is on, and it never blows cold air.

The fan is working, the air is blowing, it just never gets cold.

anybody have experience with this?

You're most likely low on refrigerant. The compressor kicks on, pulls a vacuum and a relay kicks it off to prevent damage and contamination. If it's the new stuff (R-134) you can get a kit and add a pound or two as needed from Walmart or any auto supply store. If that doesn't fix it you've probably got a leak too big to hold a charge. If it's the old stuff (R-10? it think) you'll have to take it to an automotive AC place for service.

Sounds good Eric,
I've got one customer tommorow at 8am, should be back at the house around 10:30, or 11:00.
I'll give you a call to see what your schedule is looking like.
do you have dye for leak detection? or some sort of sniffer?

If you do not have the gauges are you likely to harm the ac unit by putting to much freon in it? Ford
Thanks!

Probably not your situation but FYI, my low pressure cycling switch was taking my compressor out after running a couple of miles. Had good refrigerant pressure (45 psi) with the switch jumped out and compressor running. Ended up being the cabin air filter was extremely dirty. Works great now with new filters.
