Well, I figure I got lucky this evening. I went to pull the pin box off my fiver to drop it to the lower holes in the box frame, and the bolts were loose. Not so much that they rattled or that the box would move yet, but it took zero effort with a wrench to loosen them. The nuts are poly locks, so they may have been fine for awhile, but I will feel so much better when they are reinstalled and TIGHT. So....always check the hardware!!!

Did you use medium strength thread locker on the reinstall? IMO flat (SAE) washers and stover lock nuts or flat washers, regular nuts and threadlocker for me -of course a torque wrench! On all critical bolts/nuts like these.

I haven`t done the reinstall yet. I will be painting the box first. The bolts and poly locks are fine...but I will tighten them securely to be sure.

I lowered my pin box a few weeks ago and added threadlocker to keep the nuts from working loose. No one likes loose nuts.

I do, it's fun to chase them around to put them back into the asylum!

If by poly locks you mean the nuts with a plastic ring on one side, those are lock nuts but they are one time only use. Your supposed to replace them when taken off because they will never securely lock again. If you are going to reuse them, use some thread lock as suggested.

I chose to use new grade 8 bolts and new poly lock nuts when adjusting pin box. Torque to 150+ lbs. A few thousand miles and nothing has moved or loosened.

Upon installing our 5th Airborne, I changed to original
4 grade 5 bolts to 8 grade 8 bolts with hardened washers
and Nylock nuts. I stuck the original, still serviceable,
bolts and nuts into unused holes in the pin box. It could
be that somebody will need them on the road -- who knows.

Seems like a simple upgrade.

Poly lock nuts one time use as stated above. Best to replace with grade 8 bolts, flat washers and stover nuts (no plastic!) locking nuts. Will not loosen after torquing up.
