We were looking at Tiffin and Winnebago MH's today. The salesman (who sells both rigs) said that the Winnebago A/C will drop the temp 40 degrees due to the basement air, whereas the Tiffin (and other roof top air MH's) would drop the temp by 20 degrees. Now, his lips were moving so I don't know if I believe that statement.

Is there much difference between different systems?

Having never tested the two I do not know. MY first question is 40 degrees from what? - 115 in Yuma, AZ and how long does it take? - 20 minutes or 24 hours. These statements with no back up data or definitions amount to Creative Research Against Pollution - read the CAPS.

That difference is usually claimed to be the temperature drop between the intake and distribution vents of the A/C. In this case it seems he's rounding it off to the nearest 10 degrees.

His lips were moving... I'm sure the sales man will accurately tell you the answer to the question:

He's a SALESMAN, that's what he is trained to do. Pick the unit you like, you are ultimately the decision maker, it's your $$$$$$$$. Good Luck,

I can tell you we spent last weekend in 105 degree Texas heat in an RV spot with absolutely no protection from the sun. We were doing good to keep it around 85 inside in the middle of the afternoon. As you can see, we have a Winnebago basement air. Jan

CPD, First of all you picked two outstanding coaches to compare! I own a Winnebago, but I'm very impressed with the Tiffin line of coaches! The DW and I were in Las Vegas a couple of summers ago in July it varied in temps the time we were there from 113 to 117 and our basement air kept our coach in the low 80's during the day. Can't go wrong with whatever coach you choose! Rooster

Give the salesman a run for his money. Show up with a handheld infrared thermometer and tell him you want to test both rigs under similar conditions. Measure what comes out of the vents and how long they take to cool down.Make him "sweat" for his money.

Take your time and have fun.

No Ac can drop the outside temp that low. You can get 20 to 25 lower from you outside temp to be about right.

Very simple. Have that salesman PUT IN WRITING what he told you and make up a penalty that the dealership will have to pay if the Winne does not meet his claims. BTW, he is not really lying, he just is an IDIOT and will say anything to make a sale. Remember as the great sage George Costanza said "It is NOT a Lie if YOU believe it". No, Basement airs will not do that much different than roof airs. Have them set up BOTH units on the lot. Set the temps at 65 degrees and allow to run 24 hours and then check in the late afternoon with that salesman and use your thermometer. Doug
