I thought I'd share this with the community. O'K I'll admit I have
only dumped 3 times including today. I opted to go on down to the
rest area at Scatter Creed North bound I5. I say opted because I
could have done this at my ex son in laws rv shop in Chehalis.
They had just installed a new refer in my MH. I filled with propane
and because of the propane to dump locations I decided to stop at the
rest area on the way back to Olympia.
I hooked up the hose, set it in the drain and went to the opisite
side to pull Black tank valve.
as I came back to the drain side the conection of the hose to the
connector on the outlet valve popped off! Oh joy I had very oderous
fluids spewing every where.
I mannaged to get the hose shoved back in and finished drainig.
DW & I spent 20 minutes hosing down the area.
All in All a great learning expieriece.

I don't usually stop a Scatter Creek, since I live further south. I go to the Gee Creek ones just north of Vancouver. Sorry I missed the "action"!

What you learned is to ALWAYS pull the grey tank valve for a few seconds to make sure your sewer hose is on tight... then close and open the black valve. That way if you have a spill you only have soapy water to clean up.

It sounds like to me that you are saying that your hose came off from the connector, not that the connector came off from where it connected to the TT. We had the problem that I described and to solve it, we just put a clamp on it like the ones for a dryer vent or radiator hose.

Yeah they don't show you that stuff in those "Go RVing" ads do they?
Live and learn, and we all do it and it keeps happening. Every time I dump I prep the hose then hold it under the cap as I remove it so that any liquid that has seeped by will go down the hose, never had more than a few drops. The one time I didn't the black valve wasn't seated completely. From the valve to the cap was full, blue water everywhere. Hosed the area down while the tanks drained. Best part is this was last week, been doing this for seven years!
Just part of the experience!
I don't get lost, I investigate alternative destinations.
See a guy in the campground with a telescope, that may be me.

Don't see many places anymore that don't have the "screw on" connection but I used to...bought one of THESE for those types of drains. Works great!

With the two of us, one would always place his/her foot on the top of the hose fitting while the other pulled the valve open, just in case. When I'm by myself, I just dump a bit of gray first, as suggested above. And always, always open the valve slowly. But, hey, these experiences are all part of the RV life. We all have our little incidents.

Why use the hose in the first place. Save yourself a step and just line up and let it rip!
