I am surprised the station you used didn't have a large rock laying around some place to be used for a stopper weight for the hose. If nothing else shove the hose down a good two feet and use the lid on the hole to hold it in place.

I belong to two membership parks.. One of 'em (Where I"m at now) I have a nice threaded fitting on the end of a pipe in the ground.. The other, you got to use the "Donut" adapter.. So of course I have both on hand
I found a product that really helps. Hose Buddy Liked it so much I got 2 of 'em
The park membership magazine had an ad for them this month in fact... (I found them elsewhere) but they sure work nice.. Mine are Forest Green
In use they weigh over 8 pounds. In storage less than one

Your experience is just one of the argument for those who think they should leave their drains open while camping. What you described or the tube coming out of the drain hole could happen any time.
At least if you are there operating the pull levers, you can watch and manage in a timely manner to correct the problem.

I had the hose pop off the connector right at the drain one time. Fortunately the spill was very small and contained to the compartment of my RV. Still messy. Have to get some dryer hose connectors -- great idea! The last few dumps I've stood there holding it on, which gets old bending over for that long!

I can't imagine a manufacture putting the control valves on the other side of the trailer. How inconvenient. This is a two person job to dump your rig. Maybe you could do a new film, Continuation of R.V. titled OOOOOOO-PPPPPPS

I would not like the hose on one side and the control on the other. Are you sure something hasn't been changed I have never seen a system like that?

I can't even imagine leaving the drains open all the time when we've got a full hook up. That's a really good way to wind up with an incredible odor coming from your black tank. You've got to have a good "base" of water in there before you start using it or things just get stuck and dried and awful.
Besides you need a good volume of water coming from both the black and the gray tanks to drain them properly. You sure won't get that by leaving the drains open.
But a really great place to be is near the dump stations on a Sunday afternoon when everyone is leaving. It's always a good show. And, yes, I've been a performer in that show before!

I average 1 comedy in action at every CG dump when I go there. The comedy is the other person trying to stretch the hose that extra 2 feet is will not reach.
I usually avoid the line and wait to dump at home to give the tanks a good agitation on the return trip. The station is perfect for my set-up. Only had 1 wild hose incident when the cover decided to let er go on an extra heavy dump.
