I generally don't bother to critque places, but the Old KOA in Rock Springs is a total RIP OFF. We stopped there because it is the most likly place to stop between Nev. and Colorado. It is a dirt lot, but advertiises a pool and free wireless. Well, the reason I am upet abut this place is they charged me over $40.00 with a discount and the POOL WAS CLOSED (it was 90 ' ) and the wireless didn't work. Basically they advertise a lot but give you little besides a dirt lot and hookups. Wal-Mart would have been a better choice!
AVOID IF POSSIBLE...Rawlins is abut an hour east and has many more choices---but this whole area is the pits if you like a nice RV park..

Ah, another victim of Rocket City. Quite the little burb, isn't it?
Not sure Rawlins is much of an improvement but maybe Green River or Evanston?

The Lyman KOA is not far from Rock Springs and is very nice. Stay there next time.

Think they hiked up the rates when all the gas drilling rigs showed up a few years ago. They get a lot of folks that stay there long term and work on the drill rigs. I'd go east to Rawlins or west to Green River.

I agree with Eurocamper - Lyman is quite nice. Far enough off the interstate that road noise is a non-issue, but close enough to be convenient. And WAY more attractive than Rock Springs. (We have stayed there too, years ago - in a popup!)
You forgot to mention the great view of oil storage tanks at the Rock Springs KOA. Having already camped in Rawlins prior, we just laughed when we pulled into Rock Springs. Rawlins' CGs have similar appearance to Rock Springs, but at least have a bit of a view.

We go to Rock Springs for work from time to time...and we stay in Lyman even though an hour's drive from RS. Lyman has lots of grass, deer wandering thru.

We were at the Rock Springs KOA the last week of May. Yes it's a big gravel parking lot and we weren't looking for amenities like a pool. It served our needs as an overnighter. Our bigest gripe was the fact that 50% or more of the RV's (MOBILE HOMES) were long term residents: i.e. oil and construction workers. Noisey and lots of traffic in the park. Most had 2 or more vehicles.

For just an overnite the Rock Springs Walmart is a good choice used by many RV'ers passing through.

I second the Lyman KOA. What a nice little park and beats the Rock Springs gig in price and looks.
The staff is great at the Lyman KOA as well.

Motels in Rock Springs aren't any better. I've been there because I had to be there, working in the oil patch. Not a place I would go by choice. But I've been worse places. Working in the oil patch.
If you are from a metro area on one of the coasts, accustomed to suburban amenities, you will find a lot of places in the middle of the country that don't meet your standards. But people must live and work there, to supply you with the nice things you like, such as 40-foot luxury motorhomes and the diesel to run them.
Visiting working towns in the middle of the country is sort of like visiting a feedlot and slaughterhouse, or a chicken factory, finding out where your meat comes from.
