I will be work camping this winter for the Big Cypress National Preserve, not far from Everglade City. We'll be near the headquarters just a few miles east of Rt 29.
Can anyone tell me what Verizon Wireless access is like here? My satellite dish is in trouble, and I'm hoping to replace it with Verizon Wireless Broadband. This should be much simpler... if it works!!
I've reviewed Verizon Wireless' coverage map, and it looks good all along Rt 41, but I don't believe those coverage maps are to be trusted.
Thanks much.

I have Verizon Broadband Wireless and I'm very happy with it. I also work from the road. I'm sorry I'm not familar with the area you need to know, but maybe someone on the Verizon Forums could help you. http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn/board?board.id=Calling_Plans
It's been my experience if I zoom in really close on the Verizon map that it's a pretty good bet that I'll get coverage if it says I will. I travel mostly in the west.
Good luck!

STPitcher,
You won't have any problem using Verizon in that area. Have stayed at many different locations in the area and never a problem with cell phone use.

We're in the general area each winter and frequently travel the Trail. Though we have AT&T and always have great coverage, I'm sure the Verizon coverage is equally great. The Trail is not exactly the boonies.
We had some acquaintances that worked a winter there staying in the cg just east of 29. Nice facility. They worked as guides/nature interpreters for school classes that would come to experience Big Cypress. They would lead them into the swamp showing them the nature of the swamp (not really muddy swamp but shallow and a mostly sandy type bottom) and environs. They enjoyed their winter and we enjoyed them taking us barefoot through their tour as well.

Avan... I believe that's the campground where we'll be staying. I've got a volunteer position with their IT group... Computer support. I hope to be able to do other things as well... possibly a couple of those swamp walks. :-)
Barefoot? I was wondering about that! :-)
Thanks for all the good reports... I feel comfortable now.

Verizon is on one of the two towers at RT 41 and SR 29. Full strength EVDO data at that intersection.
