I have a 2008 Raptor, and heading out in the morning...YAY! Now, in case of power failure, the slide out has a manual crank...no problem.
My question is (and I read the manual) if something happened to the electric awning, motor quit or electric problem or failure, what do you do with the awning to get it home? Obviously you'd have to tie it up against the trailer and I haven't seen anyway yet to manualy crank or roll it up. Any ideas or comments welcome. I want to be prepared for any problems ahead of time. I have ask a couple people at campgrounds and they failed to know as well.

My Mobile Suites came with a connector and pigtail with red and black wires. It says to unplug the connector and plug in adapter, then apply external 12 volt to the pigtail until it closes. Mine was in plastic bag in basement by controller.

I think he means what do you do if the motor is bad? Is there a manual retract?

Ours came with some sort of strap with a hard plastic "T" shaped end that was in the bag with the booklet. I'm thinking that has something to do with manually closing it, but we haven't read that one yet. Sorry. Did you buy this new or used? If new, it should have come with intructions on this.

Exactly, motor decides to quit, bad wires how does a fella roll it up?
I tried to hand turn the roll and can't, its held I guess by the motor/gears. The only thing I can think of it to just lift push it closed and kind tie up the awning?

Maybe everyone crosses that road when they get there. Kinda like to know what to do before it happens, hopefully it won't.

Yes, bought it brand new, read the manual and nothing on a manual closure. You gave me an idea with the plastic strap though. I think I have some large zip ties in the garage. I guess the thing to do is push it up by the arms gather the awning and zip tie it up til ya get home or dealer. Being a motorized awning, it sure can fail.

Thanks,
steve

I had the motor fail on my Carefree awning, but it failed closed. Now that I have replaced the motor, I can tell you what to do if it fails open, at least for a Carefree unit. There are 6 screws to remove the plastic cover, then there are several 1/4 inch bolts holding the motor/gear set in place. Remove the motor/gear set, then manually roll up the awning which will probably mean two people on ladders, once rolled up, rebolt the motor/gearset in place to keep the awning from unrolling.

If the control system fails, like other posters have stated, applying 12 VDC to the pins on the back of the plastic cover will operate the motor.

I also read in the troubleshooting guide to take a 9/64 hexkey and reversible drill motor and insert into motor end and turn the motor with drill. This will operate the awning. You may have to take cover off to get to it. I don't have one to look at since mine is in shop. I did't understand that you were talking about absolute motor failure.

Raptor 2008, If you call Keystone, they will send you the manual on the awning, and it tells you how to close it manually. Also might want to get the manual on the electric bunks in the back. I realized all this after our slides failed, and luckily I had asked for the manual on how to manually work the slides so we knew how to do it in middle of the campground. Not fun.

If they are unable to send it to you, PM me and I will send you a copy.
