Our local Ohio dealer (Farber RV) is backlogged in their service dept. and we may need to have our AC replaced. It's cooling but not cold enough and we have a trip south planned later this month. While we are puzzled as to why we need a new AC when we've barely used the ac since purchasing the Minnie new in Oct. 05, we can't travel without a working ac unit. To that end, if anyone knows of a reliable repair facility in the Columbus, Ohio area, we'd appreciate the info. Thanks!

Have been happy with RCD Sales as Farber is getting out of the RV business and focusing on their Custom Coaches. My only gripe is we had some minor work done and they put their dealer sticker on the front and back of our RV. That is just flat out wrong in my book as defacing personal property. Other than that they have been very friendly and have finished the work as promised. Their main place is in Heath but they just opened a branch off of 70 on the east side. They aren't a Winnebago dealer but most of the components are the same in these coaches.

There is a place here north of Cincinnati called Southwest RV Service. They are in Ross Ohio. They are great for all types of RV repair. We have used them for any work we needed on our Jayco after the warranty period is up. I know you said Columbus Ohio but if they can get it done in time for your trip it might be worth the drive. Good luck.....

I was going to suggest that also.
I have taken mine to RCD sales. What impressed me about them was they treated me with respect like they would treat a person who has a $100,000 motorhome. Also, I had my $1800 MH winterized and they let me view the process.

The repair service tech in Northern VA told us we had a leak in our AC. While we've not used the Minnie much in the past 2 years due to a health issue, it is puzzling that the AC unit would go bad with the RV only 4 years old. Martin has cleaned the filter, but that does not seem to have made a difference.
Thanks for the info. about Farber and RCD. We've been thinking of going to RCD, but we've had no experience with them. Good to read positive feedback about them.

If the tech in VA said there's a leak, should have said where....
From factory there are no "service ports" on your rooftop A/C. This means you can't check much of the sealed system without some surgery. Bolt-on ports leak, and soldered ones require a good silver-solder skill or a tech.
The RV.net BLOG has "A/C Tuneup" by Chris Bryant. Before you give up, see if doing that is within your capabilities. We did it on our 25 year old Coleman Mach and it went back to performing like new. That's not a typo. Was installed OEM on a 1984 coach. That's why I kinda doubt a leak. With covers off and system running you should feel the outside coil (at rear) hot or at least warm, and inside coil (at front, can't access unless you remove shroud and sheet metal cover) cool to cold. Same at the compressor. Small discharge line should be hot and larger suction line cold.

Thanks for the info. on Southwest RV service and Ron Potts. They'd be good to try if RCD can't look at the Minnie this week.
Great info. on the 'AC tuneup' article. You supplied a wealth of good advice. Martin is going to try checking out the AC himself. Did I mention he's afraid of heights? The tech in Northern VA did a VERY short check on the AC before telling us there is a leak. While it's possible there is one, we don't want to replace an AC unit if we don't have to.

Just a thought. Is your AC ducted? Ours is and when it has to work hard to cool down the RV we find it best to open the chill grill on the inside part of the AC unit. The air flow is much better and it cools more efficiently. If it is hot and humid and we start our unit with the chill grill closed, it often ices up and the cooling stops until we turn it off and let the ice melt off.
I don't know if yours is like ours, but we were pretty disappointed with the cooling until we figured that out.
