Yeah, kind of a korny subject intro...but what the heck.
I have come across a new old stock Pilgrim Open Road (now you understand the subject intro). It is a 2007 40' quad slide unit with a MSRP of around $64,000. Being an orphan dealer repo unit it does need some attention in different areas. The screen door is missing, needs to be recaulked, a landing leg pad, missing a cabinet door on an overhead cabinet, a cracked plastic fender and a few other minor items. It also only has one a/c unit which is a 15K ducted unit, however the dealer will install a second a/c non-ducted unit in the bedroom at nocharge. The dealer will fix all of these items. While the trailer would not have a manufactures warranty due to Pilgrim no longer being in business. All of the appliances would have their new warranty, plus the dealer will give a 1 year warranty that as he says will cover the unit from the axles to the a/c. With the exception of the warranty will not cover frame, wall structure or wall material parts of the trailer.
This is an aluminum framed trailer. My biggest concern has to do with as I said it needs to be recaulked (for some reason Pilgrim Open Road trailers seem to need to be recaulked every few year). While looking this trailer over real well I noticed that on the exterior where the side wall meets the lower under the gooseneck portion (IE: under the bedroom) the corner molding cover was loose very near the front cap. It apprears that a couple of screws are loose or have missed their mark to secure. My concern is that even though this is an aluminum framed trailer, would these screws be achored into the aluminum or the wood floor substructure of the bedroom floor? Could this be a sign of the caulk allowed rain to begin woodrot and is a sign of bigger problems to come? I had also notice what apprears to be a few very thin hair line cracks in the gelcoat on the other side of the bottom of the bedroom side wall. However I know that stress cracking is not uncommom on many, many brands of 5th wheels.
I can pick this trailer up for around $25,000.
The other thing That I would need to do is replace the tires....all seven including the spare. It currently wears China Boom tires.
So what do you think, yes, no, maybe, jump, run or ?

Tell them you'll give them that price but they must include a set of Goodyears and mount them for you.

To be honest, Pilgrim made a decent trailer. For that price I'd laugh all the way to the bank as the things you listed are mostly minor and you seem to be well aware of RV care and repair.

As far as the screws on the cap, my new Crossroads had 3 screws that missed the mark on the front cap, nothing a new screw, a small dowel and gorilla glue didn't fix. I have been told Lowe's has SS screws with white heads that match the factory ones.

Go get it!

Well, believe it or not, after going to check it out again this afternoon. We came home and the spouse had me open our current trailer. She just isn't ready to let it go. And being the wise man I am, listen to her wants, needs and desires......Sure keeps life simple that way. If anyone is interested in is on Ebay and ends on the 4th of July. Just search Open Road and it will probaly show up.

My open road (in my sig) has been fantastic for over 2 years now. For 25k that is a steal. I paid 52K and the msrp was 66K,thought I stole it at the time but don't regret it a bit it is a great unit for the bucks.Don't know what this caulking issue is? My caulking is just fine.Change the wifes mind!!!

One thing I have learned in the past, well let's see.....it will be 28 years as of 7/11 is that she is pretty strong minded. And I guess overall I can't blame her, out Travel Supreme, while being a 1997 model year is as nice as the day we bought it. We ordered it the way, with the options we wanted. I think she also doesn't like the idea of giving up her dishwasher and built in ice maker in the cabinet. It is also extreemly well built.
As for the caulking on the Open Road, it just looks as if it has been weathered an needs to be recaulked. This is going to make someone a fantastic trailer at a bargain basement price.

We had to caulk one small spot on ours too. We were glad to notice it before it got too bad. But overall it is a well made camper. Check out their owners discussion group website
