I'm going to install a second air conditioner in my 40 Jayco Talon ZX. It has a 12' garage. I know the bedroom is prewired and is the most common location for it. But we use the garage as an office once it's unloaded. There is ducted air going to the garage but not enough. It's ok with the door open to the front of the RV. It just seems like a logical place for the second air.

I don't know that it's prewired but there is an electric vent in there so I'm thinking I could use that wire. I might have to change the breaker for it. I haven't checked that. Or that vent may be sharing a breaker for the outlets in the garage. I'll have to research that.

Has anyone else added air to their garage? Or is there a reason I'm overlooking for simply putting it up front in the bedroom? The front of the trailer stays pretty cool but we stay mostly on the Gulf Coast and down in Florida where the temperatures hit 100.

Yep. I would have to check all that for sure. Don't want to increase the breaker before looking at that.

Jayco stopped offering the 2nd AC unit over the garage in 2008, at least for the Recon units. Our 2nd air is over the bedroom and ducts into the same ductwork as the primary A/C over the living area. I had my doubts as well but with both units on, the airflow through the ductwork is substantially higher. Even at 100 degrees outside temps, the garage area remains below 80 even with the partition door closed.

I have one 15k ducted in my 40'er and the bedroom stays super cool even in 90+ degree heat. If I was to put another one in, it would be in the garage as it tends to get and stay hotter since there are no ducts in there for me.

Well maybe I'm in luck then since mine's a 2006. I may be able to put a ducted unit in the garage. A non ducted would be ok too. I just know that if I'm ever somewhere and the front unit goes out for some reason it would be nice to have a backup.

I think our garage stays under 80 at 100 outside temps but I'd like it a little cooler since we keep a computer and desk back there as a small office.

I have a New Vision Sportster toyhauler. I put my second ac in the garage area. The main ac cools the bedroom real well. I use the garage area as an office also. I have my computer and accessories set up back there. If I am on 30 amp, sometimes we turn off the main ac and I open the door to the main area and let the ac in the garage area cool the main living area.

The TH I just bought (used) has a 2nd AC installed in the back garage area. The way they did it was to run a 30amp power cord down the side ladder and it would have to be plugged in to a power site. Only downfall is I don't think I can run both AC units off my 4000k generator. The guy I bought it from used the back area as an office also with several computers and wanted more cooling back there. The one vent just didn't cut it for him. While camping this past weekend in 100 degree temps we were able to keep it very cool. Heck one friend had to wear a long sleeve because she got cold....

Could be just me but I would not be without an A/C unit in the front bed room. All of the heat runs up into the bed room so you really need it in hotter climates.

I have toyed with the idea of adding a third unit to my garage but I would just attach a 120 male plug to the third A/C on the outside of the unit/housing and run a large gauge cord to the 30 amp plug/receptacle. The rest of the coach could then run off the 50amp as it does now.
