Lake City is on the order of magnitudes more scenic and more friendly than Creede.

I have a really unbelievable story about Lake City. About 30 years ago a friend came into my store and showed me pictures of a house he had bought in Lake City. Twenty years later we happened to be in Lake City and drove around looking for the house I had only seen in pictures. We found it but I wasn't sure that was the house as my memory is getting faulty. We went to the visitors center and I told them that my friend had owned property there. They told me that he still owned the house and gave us directions. IT WAS THE SAME HOUSE! We knocked on the door and they were home and we had a great visit.

Don't let the word get out that Lake City is one of the neatest towns in the U.S. It's bad enough that all those Texans have taken over! LOL Seriously, drive up and enjoy it. You'll see why your fellow Texans already know the secret.

Not as touristy as Ouray. If you have a jeep, drive up to Carson ghost town.

How long should a person plan on making a round trip from South Fork and back before dark. We want enough time to miss around Lake City as well as the mountains.

Start early and don't be in a rush. You will want to stop in Creede for coffee or something (great coffee house there that I cannot think if the name of!) and do the Bachelor Loop there. And when you get to Lake City you want to drive out to American Basin at a minimum. Will be a full day. And one I do not think you will ever forget.

Be safe. Be at peace.
